To support our advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and data science at The university of Southern Denmark, the team of Applied AI and Data Science (AID) at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Institute invites candidates to apply for a professor position to help us bring AI and machine learning into diverse clinical specialties.

Research and organizational environmentAt the university of Southern Denmark (SDU), the candidates will join the research group of Applied AI & Data Science (AID) at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute. In collaboration with several University Hospitals and industrial partners across Denmark, these research environments provide the foundation for accelerating AI in the health care sector as well as representing expertise in data science, by developing methods for data-driven solutions spanning across diverse medical specialties.

The successful candidate will be also affiliated with the Centre for Clinical Artificial Intelligence (CAI-X), a research and innovation unit established in 2020 as a collaboration between SDU and Odense University Hospital (OUH). The mission of CAI-X is to improve quality in healthcare through intelligent use of data and technology, and to ensure implementation of artificial intelligence solutions to benefit both patients and clinical staff. The center has established a framework that supports efficient and fruitful cooperation between clinical staff, researchers, engineers, and businesses - both nationally and internationally.

Qualifications

We invite motivated candidates with interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, epidemiology, biostatistics, and in general, data science, to apply. Applicants are expected to have a strong track record of research and scientific publications, and to have well-documented university level teaching credentials. Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent qualifications in the field. The ideal candidate must have experience bridging the gap between data science and clinical research, acting as point of connection between technical and clinical collaborators. We will specifically look for candidates demonstrating versatility by having conducted relevant data science research in diverse health applications, including clinical and observational epidemiological studies. This will enable the successful candidate to contribute to the development of a strong clinical AI research environment at SDU. The successful applicant will join a dynamic research team and will be introduced to and included in teaching activities, research projects, fund raising activities and collaborations to explore the synergy between clinical and technical researchers, healthcare professionals and industrial partners.

Responsibilities The successful candidate primary responsibility is to utilize and leverage the broad technical and clinical research and to support the long-term vision of AID being a world-class center in the field of applied artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science. This follows the research strategy, which functions as the backbone in one of the first centers of its kind dedicated to working with AI across a large variety of clinical and technical areas.

The responsibilities will be to:

  • Develop, implement, and execute clinical data science focused projects in close collaborations with clinicians at hospitals by bridging interests between the clinical practice and the technical research.
  • Give technical input and support for ongoing projects and establish new collaborations.
  • Contribute to teaching activities at SDU.
  • Contribute to fund raising efforts that take place at AID.

The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller InstituteThe Maersk McKinney Moller Institute (MMMI) is part of the Faculty of Engineering at the university of Southern Denmark. MMMI is an internationally recognized research department, which has maintained a leading position in robotics for more than two decades. The team of Applied AI and Data Science is the main driver of activities within artificial intelligence and machine learning at the university of Southern Denmark. The team has close collaboration with various hospitals in Denmark, and runs projects within AI in gastroenterology, hepatology, neurology, urology, cardiology, and endocrinology. Furthermore, the team has a long history of collaboration with industrial partners within green and renewable energy.
