A TENURE TRACK POSITION FOR A RESEARCHER IN THE FIELD OF 3D OPTICAL METROLOGY AT DIGITAL INDUSTRY CENTER, Trento, Italy

The Digital Industry Center (DIcenter) focuses its research on digital technologies for the manufacturing industry by creating design techniques and applications for critical systems, adaptive and autonomous systems, advanced perception, diagnostics and prediction systems. Further application areas include digital agriculture and cultural heritage. The Center is one of the KET Technology Centers within the KET4CP project, identified and registered by the European Commission. It collaborates with the European Space Agency (ESA) and with numerous institutions and multinational companies on strategic projects with a high innovation content.

The 3DOM research unit is involved in accurate measurements and reality-based 3D reconstruction problems. A consolidated know-how has been acquired in the development of metrology solutions and mapping methodologies for geomatics and geospatial problems. Terrestrial, UAV, aerial and satellite photogrammetry as well as triangulation and time-of-flight laser scanners are the sources from where we derive 3D metric and accurate information. The research group is devoted to industrial metrology, geospatial data analyses, sensor and data integrations, environmental monitoring and 3D change detection, derivation of metric & semantic information from images and 3D data, mapping and surveying, geomatics algorithms design and implementation, mobile mapping, GIS and cartography applications, cultural heritage documentation & digital preservation, development of VR/AR solutions.

Job Description

The purpose of the Tenure Track program of FBK is to offer high level professionals the opportunity of pursuing a structured career path in order to become a tenured researcher contributing to the long- term strategy of the organization.

Within this program, FBK is looking for a candidate to cover the position with a dynamic, highly motivated, researcher for the 3DOM Research Unit of Digital Industry center.

The successful candidate is expected to:

• Perform and guide scientific research in in a variety of geomatics and geospatial applications and scales;
• Support and coordinate activities of PhDs and young researchers in the 3DOM research unit;
• Contribute to the economic sustainability of the 3DOM research unit;
• Contribute to the strategic activities and projects within the Digital Industry center.

The candidate will work in collaboration with other researchers of the Digital Industry Center, as well as with partners involved in 3DOM projects.

The Ideal Candidate should have

• PhD Degree in Geomatics, Architecture or related disciplines (or equivalent post-master experience in research);
• Solid research experience/track record (some 4 years after the PhD or equivalent experience) in fields related to 3D surveying and modeling at various scale and for different applications;
• Proven experience in team working and participation in international projects;
• Demonstrated involvement in people supporting and mentoring;
• Proven experience in the preparation of competitive research proposals;
• Verified experience in field works;
• Experiences in Artificial Intelligence / Machine learning applied to the Geomatics field;
• Good network of local and international stakeholders;
• Oral and written proficiency in both Italian and English.

Type of contract:

Tenure Track position leading to an FBK 3rd Level Researcher (R3) permanent contract.

Duration:

The maximum duration of the Tenure Track contract is up to 5 years (which may be reduced in accordance with the Committee assessment on the candidate's abilities and skills). If the final assessment of the Tenure Track experience is positive, the selected candidate for the tenure track position will be offered a permanent R3 contract.

Working hours:

full time (38 h per week).

Gross annual salary:

about 39.500€, plus objectives achievement bonus.

February 2022
