We are looking for a student to assist both the Management Support Team and Safety, Risk & Compliance Team in DRC’s Operations Department. You will gain insight into high-level decision-making and the management of DRC’s international operations on a day-to-day basis, including key elements of risk and compliance management.

DRC has nearly 9,000 staff worldwide who are all working hard to ensure the rights of displaced people.

The Management Support Team supports the Executive Directors for DRC’s Operations Divisions who provide management and leadership to DRC’s international operations. Safety, Risk & Compliance supports DRC to pursue opportunities and organisational objectives in a manner where identified risks are managed, thus keeping the organisation, its people, and its assets safe from harm.

About the job

Your time will be split between supporting the two teams, providing support to management in their daily work within administration, coordination and communication, and providing Safety, Risk & Compliance with administrative, research, and analytical support. You will work closely with the Executive Directors for Operations and Global Specialists from Safety, Risk & Compliance at DRC Headquarters in Copenhagen. Your main tasks will be related to preparation and facilitation of meetings and decision-making processes, coordination, internal communication, research and preliminary analysis, and ad hoc administrative tasks. The tasks will include, but not be limited to:

  • Preparing and facilitating meetings, taking minutes, and following up on decisions
  • Developing communication pieces and new formats for internal communication and global information sharing
  • Developing and maintaining our intranet and SharePoint sites
  • Assisting with the continual improvement of management support systems
  • Performing various administrative tasks as needed, such as processing payments, archiving, and maintaining mail lists, as well as providing ad hoc administrative support for our Middle East HQ Operations Unit
  • Supporting the virtual rollout of compliance policies, procedures, tools, and training and induction sessions for DRC’s international operations
  • Mapping the costs of litigation, including the cost of using the ordinary courts or arbitration in various countries
  • Mapping litigation over time concerning humanitarian NGOs with reference to the relevant case law to support overview and trend analysis

About you

We are looking for a proactive, independent, and service-minded person, who will thrive as part of a team that provides flexible support according to management’s and the organisation’s needs. Moreover, we also expect that you:

Required

  • Are enrolled in a higher education, e.g. university, in International Law, International Business, International Relations, or similar internationally oriented discipline
  • Have completed at least two years of higher education and are studying through the end of 2022 at least
  • Have keen research and analytical skills, an eye for detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Are an experienced user of the MS Office Suite
  • Are fluent in both written and spoken English (Arabic, Danish, French, Russian or Spanish would be an advantage)
  • Commit to the values and Code of Conduct of the Danish Refugee Council (find it here)
  • Confirm that you have the required permits to work and live in Denmark
  • Can work 2-3 days a week, 5-7.5 hours per day (15 hours/week)


Desirable

  • Have an interest in international affairs, law, and humanitarian assistance
  • Are passionate about administrative work, law, risk, and compliance
  • Can organise your own work, balance and prioritise many different tasks at the same time, and shift between the support roles demanded by the position with agility and ease
  • Are interested in and have a flair for communication, information management and administrative tasks
  • Have experience working with Microsoft Office365, Dynamics, Teams and SharePoint in particular
  • Are a team player with good interpersonal and intercultural skills
  • Are open-minded and flexible towards the different tasks assigned to you, including being willing and interested in undertaking ad hoc administrative tasks as required

Start date: As soon as possible

Duration: Until 31 December 2022 with the possibility of extension

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and HK. This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply.

Please note that it is a requirement to have the right to work in Denmark (through nationality or existing work visa) to be considered for this role.

Depending on the COVID-19 situation in Denmark there might be a need to work partly from home.
