Growth-Minded CTO Ready For Global Challenge

We are in a period of rapid growth and expansion and are looking for an ambitious CTO to lead our development team and manage external partners, including AWS. Our CTO is a member of the management team and is responsible for formulating, implementing, and managing our IT structure and policies. IT is one of the most critical drivers of our growth strategy. We are already localized in three languages, and have won the market in DACH and Northern Europe. With your help, we are ready to rapidly expand into the global market.

You will lead a development team of back-end, front-end, and DevOps engineers. We have an office in Berlin, and a head office is Denmark, Odense N. As CTO, you will be responsible for managing and directing three major challenges:

1. Scalability. As a high-growth company, we have seen huge growth of traffic in the past few years. Our Kafka traffic grew 6x in the last year alone. In order to sustain this growth, our cloud Infrastructure team must continuously improve existing systems and explore next-generation infrastructure options. To take database as an example, we went through several phases to handle data growth: upgrade software and hardware, split database, migrate to AWS Aurora, develop Colourbox-internal data access layer between applications and storage engines.

2. Stability. System stability and availability are among our most important metrics. To achieve this, the team works on multiple efforts in parallel: (1) Ensure each service/system improves its own stability; (2) Conduct introspective end-to-end workflow to identify fragile components and fix them; (3) Build and maintain data backup infrastructure and recovery mechanisms.

3. Search. Our most important service is advanced search, which allows users to find, download and share digital media sourced from a library over 26 million (and growing). We are constantly improving our search engine and use Elasticsearch in combination with additional services to compile internally and externally.

About You

You have a vision for how to source, scope, implement and manage secure and scalable solutions to solve challenges presented by evolving technologies: solutions that will protect and facilitate both our Enterprise and SMB customers.

You understand product development, software engineering methods and best practices, and have an in-depth knowledge of software architecture. Ass a professional, you are able to evaluate the practicalities of solutions architecture, both technical and financial for real-world security and scalability challenges.

You are a team player who is able to collaborate and communicate with commercial and technical leadership alike. You are a mentor and role model for the numerous talented engineers developing their careers at Colourbox. You incubate and try many ideas, you are not afraid to fail, you are prepared to take calculated risks and, ultimately, propose impactful organic developments or inorganic alternatives for future success.

A significant component of this role involves speaking engagements, analyst relations, direct client interaction, and sales deal support.

Your Responsibilities

Lead the evolution of next-generation solutions architecture.

Lead customer user groups to gain feedback on the strength of proposed solutions and future use cases.

Interact with Colourbox management, AdvisoryBoard, and other Colourbox business units, like sales and marketing to seed game-changing innovations.

Work side by side with product development, helping the management, marketing, and sales teams to shepherd products to market.

Engage with customers, partners, and potential acquisitions.

Develop and influence Colourbox IT and development strategy in relation to in-house competence, choice of partners, and technology stack.

Support sales with client engagements and customer escalations.

Create a motivating and productive development environment.

Develop plans for AD and CMS integration.

Requirements and Professional Expertise

From a technical perspective, you will succeed in this job if you have the following qualifications, and 5+ years of experience in:

BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field

Proactiveness, good communication and fast learning, highly independent and autonomous.

English fluent (verbal and written)

General software architecture experience

High-level, object-oriented programming languages

Systems architecture, design, and implementation

Proven ability to coach/mentor

Experience with agile practices

Enterprise appliance delivery

Cloud and SAAS delivery

General experience in IT Security

Ability to work in areas outside of your usual comfort zone and show motivation for personal growth.

Preferred Experience

Design of SaaS systems for scalability, security, availability and performance

Prior public speaking experience and/or thought leadership security or software design/delivery

Experience with scalable cloud-based offerings (AWS)
