IMS is a non-profit, media development organisation working to support local media in countries affected by armed conflict, human insecurity and political transition. We promote press freedom, provide safety for journalists and pave the way for good journalism.
This is an exciting opportunity for a self-starter who wants to apply his or her communications skills – particularly in digital media – to advance quality journalism and the safety of journalists.
You will be part of a small communications team where we strive to communicate the impact and aims of activities of IMS, as well as the importance of press freedom to audiences in primarily the Nordic countries and in our programme countries.
Candidates should have sharp visual storytelling and writing skills, lots of creativity and preferably an interest in journalism and international affairs. In return, we offer a dynamic and inspiring work place with staff from more than 30 countries who believe passionately in press freedom.
Tasks include producing visual, engaging material for IMS’ social media presence, developing digital content for mediasupport.org, programme communication platforms, and other communication tasks. The Digital Communications Coordinator works closely with colleagues in the Communications team, programme staff and IMS’ global partners.

Responsibilities
Digital (video, social media, website, email newsletter)
- Expand IMS’ social media presence, developing and executing data-driven strategies and campaigns in coordination with the Head of Communications
- Produce engaging material for social media and website (e.g. graphics, videos, photo slideshows, posts, etc.) for both awareness raising and membership recruitment
- Track and share social media analytics using multiple tools
- Coordinate content production for mediasupport.org, publish stories
- Train staff in how to produce short videos and photo stories
- Edit content (video, social media, web content)
- Manage website upgrades, relationship with website vendor
- Produce IMS’ external newsletter(s).
Design
- Produce visual materials using video and photo software, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator for social media posts, website and for printed materials
- Design presentations and branding videos for staff use.
Events
- Support and help document IMS events from project activities to conferences, awareness- raising events, workshops and partner visits.
- Work with the communications team and programme staff to set up events, the production of online and printed materials, publicizing events and coordinating tech as needed.
- Produce live social media coverage of IMS events.
Qualifications and skills
- Relevant educational background in areas such as multimedia, video or digital journalism and communication
- Experienced user of video and photo equipment and video editing software as well as WordPress
- Experience handling corporate social media accounts. SoMe campaign experience an added value
- Good story writing skills in English a must. Knowledge of Danish is an asset
- Experience working in developing countries and in international environments with communications and journalism is an asset
- Ability to train staff in visual communication tools
- A team player ready to take on tasks, big or small.
