Special Business Development Specialist (special consultant) at ReNEW

We are looking for a highly motivated and independent Special Business Development Specialist to support our efforts at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine, reNEW, based at Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, requires a Business Development Specialist within the Hub to oversee the development of a mode for translation across this global consortium. The role would liaise with an external consultant and report to the CEO of reNEW.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine, reNEW has its coordinating and administrative Hub at the University of Copenhagen as well as research nodes located at Murdoch Children's Research Institute (Melbourne, Australia), Leiden University Medical Center (Leiden, the Netherlands), and the node at the University of Copenhagen. Researchers within reNEW addresses fundamental questions in stem cell and developmental biology and aim to translate research findings to products. With translation as a key objective, it is critical for the three partners to consider the best approach to enable commercialization.

An opportunity has arisen for reNEW partners to work with an independent external consultant to develop models for translation of reNEW research outcomes. To liaise with this external consultant, the reNEW Copenhagen Hub is looking for a Business Development Specialist to assist in collection of data from the nodes for the development and evaluation of potential models. The role would be to liaise both with an external consultant and report to the CEO of reNEW.

Your job

A clear project plan has been developed for action. This role includes but is not limited to the following tasks and deliverables:

Enable communication between all parties

Scheduling of meetings for steering committee, organisation of all required online discussions for CEO and consultants, documentation of outcomes of all meetings

Development of content for presentations, in consultation with reNEW CEO and consultant 1

All meetings to have pre-distributed agendas and relevant reading material ahead of time and minutes made of all discussions

Maintenance of an ongoing action plan

Clear action plan available to all parties

Liaison with TTO / BD representatives at all nodes

Establish those points of contact who can assist in the confidential audit of potential deal flow

Collection of IP audit information

Work with each partner to assess the current and potential IP portfolio, the nature of that IP with respect to path to market and BD requirement and summarise for Anette

Collation of IP audit

Presentation of audit outcome to all parties

Development of proposed path to market for the portfolio as a whole

In liaison with the BD managers at each site, identify the level of collaborative IP (current and potential), the product type likely to result from this IP, the opportunities for IP bundling and the likely targets of commercialisation activity

Liaise with reNEW CEO to propose how the operational budget may be accommodated within the reNEW budget, assuming renewal at year 5

Proposed costing model for the Steering group to consider the impact of incorporation on the availability of research funds moving forward

Synthesis into recommended operational plan

Final business plan proposal together with timeline and operational budget

Profile

Has substantial knowledge and experience within innovation and business development, preferably with a particular focus on drug development, cell therapies or gene modification.

Has a relevant academic education and background, e.g. a postdoc in biomedicine with experience/interest from industry.

Is proactive, responsive, detail-oriented and thrives in a busy environment

Is service-oriented without losing the overview and has a good understanding of people

Can pivot rapidly depending upon shifts in priorities

Is fluent in English. Knowledge of Danish is an advantage.

Preferably has documented experience in collaboration with senior scientists and management in a larger company, university or similar.

Preferably has some experience in public presentations and small group training

Salary and terms of employment

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position, starting on 1 September and ending on 31 March 2025.

Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
