When you arrive at work, you go through the gates and into the worlds’ largest insulin manufacturing site – located in Kalundborg. Your workplace will be in the building Insulin Manufacturing 1 (IM1) – which in turn is the worlds’ largest insulin manufacturing facility. Here, you will be joining lab technicians, blacksmiths, operators, skilled workers, chemists, IT and automation savvy people like yourself – and a host of people with many different backgrounds.

Do you want to work in this busy community of dedicated people? Are you a person, who can communicate to other professions what it possible – and what isn’t – when it comes to programming? Do you understand how systems affect each other, and are you curious to understand the interconnectedness of all the systems in a complex production setup like ours? Then please keep reading.

About the department
You will be a part of the Novo Nordisk insulin manufacturing effort in Kalundborg, called Diabetes Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (DAPI), specifically in the facility called IM1. Here, you will join the Utility and Solvents support Team, who works to ensure that all the automated processes of the production is running smoothly, are continuously optimised, and of course are in full compliance with the quality and regulatory demands we adhere to.

The position
In the position as automation supporter, together with your colleagues, you will be coding our production systems; LMES (Local Management Execution System) and Sattline. In your new role, you will be trained in one of these systems, which you will then be focusing on. We use LMES to catch and record data about patterns in our production, e.g. pH or temperature levels. Satlline is a Novo Nordisk system that we use in the control rooms to monitor our production. This is the user interface from where we run the whole production setup.

The job consists of two major areas of responsibility – one is about updating our existing systems, with the scope of identifying, developing and implementing optimization initiatives. The other is the qualification and documentation of all the changes that are made in connection with these optimisations, allowing us to always adhere to regulations.

A task example and a typical work flow could be the automated cleaning of the inside of our large mixing containers. Imagine that your production colleagues have optimized the internal cleaning of these containers, because they made a more effective cleaning solvent, able to do the job quicker.

In this case, your task would be to develop the actual programming changes that allow this optimization to move forward. A chemist will join you in making the initial analysis, and together, you will uncover what is possible to change, and what isn’t. Here, it is important that you truly understand the wishes and needs from the production line, and that you are able to communicate the content and limits of any IT changes. Together, you and the chemist will plan how to implement and test the changes, so that it will have the needed effect.

Throughout the whole process, you will be documenting the changes, you plan to make in the system. You will be submitting all of your documentation to our Quality Assurance (QA) department for approval – one of your many important collaborators and stakeholders. Finally, you perform the actual coding changes, releasing your ideas into the real world, where your decisions may have a large impact. Besides the ongoing improvement of our production systems, we will be trusting you to operate and maintain them as well.

Qualifications
We are looking for a person with the kind of behavioral preferences that allows for success in the job. Because we work with GMP, it is important that you never compromise on safety and quality, and not least that you may thrive in a documentation-heavy work environment, since everything we do in and around the production must be documented, in order for us to comply with regulatory and quality demands. Besides this, both QA-colleagues, operators and chemists will be counting on you to succeed, which is why it is important to be proactive, to follow through on every assignment, and to respect all deadlines.

It will to your advantage if you have practical experience with database systems based on Oracle. Besides that, you may also be experienced in working with automation processes, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry. Maybe you have worked with IT in other domains or business areas and have a strong curiosity for new territories. We expect you to hold a degree at least at BSc level, probably within computer science. You may be a recently graduated engineer or maybe something completely different – maybe even a self-taught programmer with scientific background and a heavy interest for technical and production related equipment. No matter the gravitas of your experience, we have the right level of challenges for the right candidate. It is of course a prerequisite that you have the behavior, the will and the curiosity to learn about our equipment, our processes and our systems.
