Laboratory technician for plant analysis and microbiology, Department of Food Science, Aarhus University

At the Department of Food Science, the Science Team for Food Technology (FT), a full-time position as a laboratory technician is available for appointment as from 15 September 2021 or soon thereafter.

Position activities
You will be part of a Science Team consisting of researchers, technicians and students from bachelor to PhD level. The teams work is project-oriented, and your tasks will primarily consist of analysis of plants, plant products and participation in experimental work in collaboration with the researchers. You will be responsible for many different tasks in the laboratory around food analysis work, method development, and laboratory management and support and guidance of students on key analysis equipment.

Your activities will primarily be within the following areas

• Analysis of plant ingredients e.g. phenols, carbohydrates, polyacetylenes, glucosinolates, etc. using HPLC, GC-MS, and IC
• Microbiology
• Laboratory guidance of students and researchers
• Method development
• Sample collection, sample preparation and data processing
• Maintenance of various analysis equipment and laboratory management
• Photography in studios and ‘on the spot’ plants, plant products and experimental setup as documentation of the experimental work.

Qualifications
You must be a laboratory graduate and preferably have several years of experience with HPLC and IC, as well as a basic knowledge of microbiological techniques. In addition, you must have experience with analysis of plants and plant products. If you have experience of participating in research projects, this will be an advantage. Interest or experience with photography will also be a qualification we value.

Emphasis will be placed on having good analytical skills so that you can independently organize and carry out the laboratory work. You must be good at collaborating and sharing your knowledge with others regardless of job category. You should work carefully and structured, and be able to assess the reliability of your results. It is expected that you are committed, energetic and have a sense of high precision in your work.

We offer a professional dynamic international research environment, where we largely communicate in English in the laboratories, in project descriptions and for meetings. The laboratory has Bachelor, Master and PhD students as well as guest researchers, therefore you must be able to read instructions and supervise within your area of expertise in English. Formalities and salary range
Salary and employment conditions in accordance with the joint agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Public Employees' Organizations as well as the organization agreement between the Ministry of Finance and HK / STAT for office workers, laboratory technicians and IT staff.
