Department of Chemistry at Faculty of Science, the University of Copenhagen is looking for a Laboratory Assistant with effect from 01/02/2024.

About us

The Department of Chemistry is an internationally leading research and teaching environment for chemistry. The Department of Chemistry conducts top research within a wide range of chemical disciplines. We work within themes such as the green transition, medicine, material development and quantum chemistry. In addition, the department trains excellent graduates in chemistry who are employed in Danish and foreign companies. The department also contributes high-quality chemistry teaching to a number of bio and natural science programs at the University of Copenhagen. The Department of Chemistry has approx. 200 employees. Tasks

The laboratory assistant will ensure the management and the day to day running of the lab. Your primary responsibilities as a laboratory assistant will involve a range of essential tasks to ensure the smooth functioning of the lab:

1. Order Management

- Initiate and process orders for laboratory supplies and equipment.

- Receive and organize incoming orders, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.

2. Labware Maintenance:

- Clean and sterilize labware to meet the required standards for experiments.

- Ensure proper storage and labeling of cleaned lab equipment.

3. Calendar Management:

- Keep track of the group calendar, updating it with relevant events, experiments, and deadlines.

- Coordinate with team members to ensure schedule alignment.

4. Website Administration:

- Manage and update the group's website, ensuring it reflects the latest research, publications, and team information.

- Collaborate with researchers to showcase ongoing projects and achievements.

5. Lab Organization and Cleanliness:

- Maintain overall order and cleanliness in the laboratory environment.

- Implement proper waste disposal procedures and adhere to safety protocols.

By excelling in these tasks, you'll play a crucial role in contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the laboratory's daily operations. Your attention to detail and organizational skills will be invaluable in supporting the research initiatives of the team.

We expect a candidate who:

  • Holds a BSc in natural sciences (e.g., chemistry, nanoscience, biochemistry, or related areas).
  • Demonstrates proficiency in English communication, both written and oral.
  • Can work independently and collaboratively.
  • Takes initiative and provides strong support.
  • Excels in a dynamic work environment with various stakeholders, deadlines, and tasks.

Terms of salary and employment

The employment is made in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Organisations of Public Employees – governmental institutions (the OAO-S collective agreement) and the Professional Agreement for clerical employees, laboratory technicians and IT-officers in the state.

You will be employed as a clerical laboratory technician at a basic salary. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time is 10 hours per week. The position is for one year.
