Associate Professor of Forest and Landscape Ecology

The University of Copenhagen seeks one or two Associate professor in the Section Forest and Landscape Ecology to strengthen research on the role of ecological processes in guiding restoration, conservation, and management at different scales in forest and urban settings. We work with large-scale multi taxa responses along environmental and management gradients across ecosystems.
Qualifications
We are looking for skilled researchers with a PhD or similar in Ecology that has a strong track-record covering forest or urban biodiversity, management, and conservation with specific emphasis on the response of biodiversity and ecosystem functioning to environmental and management gradients.
The candidate should have experience with management of large scale research projects with focus on either the urban or the forest environment:
1) methods for monitoring and evaluating forest management practices, advanced spatial analyses, remote sensing methods, notably airborne laser scanning techniques as well as mapping of forest and woodland ecosystem properties at different scales. Additional relevant experience includes the development and recovery of forest ecosystems following land-use change, statistical analyses, data science.
2) innovative methods for monitoring and management of urban plant community ecology and biodiversity in response to urban air pollution and climate extremes, climate adaption or nature based solutions. Additional relevant experience includes research on green infrastructure and their importance for flora and fauna.
The candidates are expected to contribute to the science-policy interface by disseminating knowledge and strategic priorities to decision-makers and the public. We expect strong expertise in turning scientific empirical evidence into appropriate decision tools for conservation planning.
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies, and must be able to explain and reflect upon their own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training program for assistant professors is required.
Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.
Assessment of applicants will consider their level of documented, original scientific production, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

IGN conducts basic and applied research and research based teaching within the fields Forest, Nature and Biomass, Geography & Geoinformatics, Geology–Geoscience and Landscape Architecture and Planning. Beside research, development and education, tasks include public-sector services, innovation, monitoring, consultancy and dissemination as well as international development and environmental assistance often with a focus on nature based solutions.
