The Digital Design Department at the IT University of Copenhagen invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor. The proposed starting date is 15 January 2022.
We invite applicants who want to contribute to the IT University’s vision of creating and sharing knowledge that is profound and leads to ground-breaking information technology and services for the benefit of humanity; and to contribute to the Digital Design Departments research profile combining design thinking with technological tools, material exploration, digital media and co-design.
Job description
We look to hire a candidate within Design Research and Interaction Design. The candidate should have strong theoretical, methodological and design-oriented qualifications in the core of interaction design with interests in the design, construction, and use of interactive artifacts. A good candidate is expected to conduct research contributing to several of the following areas:
The candidate should also be qualified in sketching and prototyping interactive artifacts through a variety of digital materials from Arduino to Web-oriented tools. Generally, programming skills within Processing, JavaScript, Python, including openFrameworks or UX wireframing tools will be an advantage.
The candidate is expected to lead and further develop the master specialization in interaction design which consists of two consecutive courses as part of the MSc in Digital Design and Interactive Technologies. The candidate is also expected to supervise bachelor and master theses within interaction design.

The IT University has more than 160 full-time academics. Research and teaching in information technology span all academic activities which involve computers including computer science, information and media sciences, humanities and social sciences, business impact and the commercialisation of IT.

- Design as a matter of concern, how design can critique, speculate on, and otherwise engage with societal issues
- How design can engage in prototyping alternative futures
- How design can support and sustain new communities of practice
- How design can help build publics of care, for instance, around issues in healthcare, elderly care or environmental care
- Material interaction and how the scope of materials used in interaction design can be broadened
The candidate should also be qualified in sketching and prototyping interactive artifacts through a variety of digital materials from Arduino to Web-oriented tools. - Publications of research at a high international level in well-respected peer reviewed venues
- Competences in developing and conducting teaching that is well received by students
- A record of contributing to the goals of the institutions in which he/she has worked, for example participation in committees, etc.
In addition, candidates for the position should be able to:
- Attract external research funding
- Supervise PhD students
- Read/speak a Scandinavian language (or have the willingness to learn Danish)
