Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to Red Barnet
Experienced and change-oriented leader with strategic orientation and desire to head a department with 50+ employees that support Finance, IT, HR, and Management Support. A unique role for an experienced leader, who wants to lead various expert competencies and provide a direction for people with a passion for making a difference.
As CFO and as responsible for Business Support & Development, you have the opportunity for a challenging role in an organization that works with a purpose and ambition to make lives for children across the world better. This requires funding and resources, and with your strategic overview and strong insight in business operations you secure the right attention on all projects and on Red Barnet as a whole. You help create an efficient, agile, and Business Support function that contributes to an efficient bottom line and development of the organization. Together with your organization, you help to ensure that more than DKK 450 million yearly are distributed and spent where it creates the most value.
You work from the head office in Copenhagen, become part of the top management and refer to and work closely with Secretary-General Johanne Schmidt Nielsen, and Deputy CEO Roger Hearn.
Business Support & Development
Business Support & Development manages all financial processes and preparation of main accounts, projects, reporting to authorities and donors and support to the individual business areas. The department also includes internal IT that is currently rolling out a new ERP system, while also developing software solutions to the business. HR is also part of the department; in close collaboration with management, they oversee attracting, developing, and retaining key staff and operates HR a-z based on Red Barnet’s Collective Agreement. Management Support ensures smooth management processes and governs all activity with the board. In total, there are 4 mid-managers reporting to the CFO, and the department comprises 50 people.
Leadership, strategic direction, and organizational development
As CFO, you are overall responsible for the daily and future financial processes and ensure that Red Barnet’s business strategy and activities are supported. You do this by ensuring the day-to-day operations and “dressing up” the organization and employees for future demands – in connection with the ongoing change process, you identify, assess, and develop the right competencies to secure that your organization is ready for the next step. Some of your work tasks include to:
- set direction and define a strategic plan for Business Support & Development that lifts Red Barnet’s strategy and vision.
- drive operations and development of systems, models, and processes.
- initiate training, development, and quality follow-up on financial resources.
- ensure yearly budgeting and forecasting based on the donations and resources available.
- prepare financial reporting for management, executive committee, and the board, and coordinate financial statements.
- identify, analyze, and present financial risks and opportunities.
- create synergies between various functions in the department and ensure that Finance, HR, and IT support business and organizational strategies.
- contribute to and strengthen Red Barnet’s management team in their decisions by providing financial and people transparency.
Engaging Finance leader, with a strong motivation for not only Finance but also IT and HR
Academically, you combine your academic background at the master’s level with experience from a similar role as CFO, where you have covered the full financial value chain through your management team. You have sufficient insight in accounting, controlling, and reporting to challenge and develop processes, and you have been exposed to a project finance organization. Furthermore, you have insight in IT systems and how they support business processes, and if you have some insight into HR, it is even better. Your background can be from another NGO, a political institution, or a private international organization. Throughout your career, you have demonstrated a strong people focus and change orientation.
As a person, you can engage, motivate, and involve your surroundings, through your initiatives and your leadership skills. You possess the right dose of patience, impatience, and result-orientation to be able to act in an organization with various stakeholders, political influencers, and people with different competencies. As a leader, you show impact through convincing and positive communication, characterized by integrity, strong values, and ownership, and your leadership style is delegating and holistic with empathy for, when to make demands and when to support. Finally, and not least, you are passionate about working in a challenging job that serves several purposes, and where you, every day, can see the positive results of your efforts.
