Are you passionate about the marine industry and able to lead and drive technical operation and fleet management efficiently while also decarbonising a fleet of more than 450 tugs globally? Can you create followership across a global technical organization of +100 people, then this is your chance to join Svitzer as our new Chief Technical Officer.

Svitzer is a global market leader providing towage and sustainable marine solutions to customers in 30+ countries globally. As a standalone company and as part of Maersk we have been providing safety and support at sea since 1833.

As Chief Technical Officer at Svitzer, you are the key player in ensuring fleet integrity and reliability as well as making sure our fleet is meeting current and future customer and regulatory compliance demands. This also includes executing on our ambitious decarbonisation strategy. You lead a strong team with high skills and experienced people, and are responsible for driving technical performance management, maintenance and repair system and discipline, solving daily and technical complex challenges as well as strategic planning for Svitzer’s fleet including building the fleet of the future.

You actively contribute to developing and executing on the overall Svitzer strategy and improving the customer experience in collaboration with global, regional, and functional leadership teams. Within your field you also drive standardisation and optimisation by leveraging our global ownership advantage, expertise, and data available. You are globally responsible for creating and leading the strategic priorities of the Technical function.

Key responsibilities


As a CTO in Svitzer your main tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Develop and lead safe and efficient technical operations across the global fleet.
  • Maintenance and repair of the fleet including cost leadership for the daily running cost as well as dockings.
  • Develop, maintain and implement M&R standards and systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement and performance management striving for high quality and safe service delivery.
  • Accountability for timely build and delivery of fit for purpose tugs for the fleet.
  • Strategic planning of fleet in close liaison with regional and commercial leaders.
  • Co-leading and executing on our decarbonisation strategy.
  • Partnerships with main suppliers and shipyards with the purpose of improving cost base, quality, reliability, and sustainability of equipment.
  • Be a technical expert for senior management as well as for commercial and our customers.
  • In a matrix organisation maintain a strong technical global community to drive and promote technical expertise.
  • Responsible for creating the talent pipeline for the global technical function.
  • Driving force on identifying the right technical asset solutions based on customer requirements.

We are looking for


As a person you take ownership by being energetic, initiative-taking, and curious to get to know our customer requirements and overcome challenges together and across functional areas. You listen to the organisation, coach and offer sparring to your peers and direct reports, and you value and create a strong network with your stakeholders. You communicate well at all levels and understand and can explain complex technical problems in a simple manner. You thrive working in a matrix organisation and with very versatile tasks – shifting between daily problem solving and long-term strategic planning.

Preferably you have experience with global fleet management and technical performance management of same. You are comfortable meeting existing or potential customers and possess the needed commercial acumen. This includes the ability to link customer demands to technical solutions to define a vessel specification that will work efficiently and satisfy the overall customer requirements.

You are an experienced leader of leaders with the ability to create followership in a global matrix organisation. You have a passion for finding new ways and solutions and have knowledge of decarbonisation initiative across the shipping and energy sector.

You have been working with project management of capital expenditures projects and preferably within asset heavy maritime or offshore businesses. You are literate with the process of budgeting and business planning.

You are a strategic and analytical thinker as well as a doer, driven by creating business impact. Your ability to perform critical analysis, prioritize and problem solve is an asset. You work independently, set direction for your own team and at the same time enjoy working in cross-functional teams.
