Læger uden Grænser/ Médecins Sans Frontières Denmark (MSF) in Denmark is looking for an intern with strong analytical skills and passion for humanitarian medical agendas. The intern will be part of the Advocacy and Analysis Unit (AAU) from August 2023 to January 2024.
The intern’s main role is to support advancing MSF’s advocacy priorities in Denmark. We aim to create lasting improvements for MSF patients in the most vulnerable situations globally.
In doing so, the intern supports the ongoing activities and priorities of the AAU team and works closely with AAU team members.
This includes conducting analysis and research on key humanitarian and global health agendas, increasing awareness about MSF’s humanitarian and medical priorities amongst different audiences in Denmark through events, outreach, and campaigning and engaging with key stakeholders.
The intern will have the opportunity to focus on one topic of the intern’s own choice and conduct related research and analysis, depending on the intern’s study requirements as well as interest. This will be defined together with the AAU team during the initial weeks of the internship.
The intern will be responsible for tasks within advocacy and analytical work, coordination of public outreach initiatives, and support to internal trainings of MSF field staff.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a private, international humanitarian organization that provides emergency medical assistance to victims of conflict and disasters in more than 72 countries. MSF provides assistance to populations in distress, to victims of man-made or natural disasters, and to victims of armed conflicts without any discrimination in relation to religion, ethnic or political affiliation. MSF is a completely neutral and impartial organization, which, according to the universal medical ethics and the right to humanitarian aid, claims full and unhindered freedom to carry out its work. In addition to emergency medical care, MSF talks about the suffering, abuse, and distress that our staff are witnessing.

Core responsibilities and tasks
The intern will be responsible for tasks within advocacy and analytical work, coordination of public outreach initiatives, and support to internal trainings of MSF field staff.
Support analysis and advocacy activities
- Produce well-researched talking points, reports, background papers, and analytical briefings on different humanitarian topics and thematic advocacy areas, including access to medicines in low-income countries, mental health and survivors of violence, sexual and reproductive health, planetary health, and international humanitarian law.
- Stay informed about Danish political debates for potential engagement for MSF Denmark.
- Stay informed about MSF’s international humanitarian and medical priorities and guidelines.
- Participate in developing, implementing, and evaluating MSF advocacy strategies and plans.
Coordinate public outreach and engagement initiatives
- Support implementation of events, panel discussions, and initiatives, where MSF Denmark can raise awareness on key humanitarian, medical priorities and advocate and encourage change and action, including a Humanitarian workshop day for the public (Nov 2023) and events around the launch of the Lancet Countdown 2023 and COP28.
- Produce advocacy-related outreach material and event toolkits that creatively convey and communicate humanitarian and medical topics for different audiences.
The intern will also be expected to
- Contribute to the strategic work and team discussions on developing advocacy and analysis priorities.
- Contribute actively towards a positive team spirit and problem-solving as an integrated part of the AAU team and MSF Denmark.
- Support colleagues with joint tasks or in times of need of extra hands.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in studies in e.g., political science, international relations, human rights, health/global health, or the like.
- Experience from volunteering in an NGOs or field work is an advantage.
- Fluent in Danish and English (spoken and written).
- Knowledge about humanitarian or global health issues as well advocacy approaches.
Competences
- Collaborative skills and ability to work with many different groups and stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset and strong writing skills.
- Self-driven and can independently follow an assignment to the end.
- Able to work evening and/or weekends in some busy periods or during external events at these times.
Terms
- This is an unpaid internship. MSF will provide advice and support for the intern and regards the internship as a learning experience into what it is like to work for an international medical humanitarian organization.
- Lunch will be provided for the intern when in the office.
- MSF has a flexible working strategy with the option to work partly from home.
