Are you passionate about tool design and production of high-precision composite- and metal parts for military air crafts? Are you intrigued by the possibilities of 3D printing in tooling?
At Terma Aerostructures A/S, we are industry leaders in manufacturing military and defense composite and metal aircraft parts, encompassing a wide range of products, including those designed for the F-35, the most advanced fighter jet in the world. Our mission is to ensure security for Denmark and our allies by being at the forefront of technology in manufacturing and advanced military equipment. To maintain our global technical standing, we rely on passionate and skilled engineers and scientists. We currently have an exciting opportunity for you to join us in shaping a secure future.
As a specialist in our Tool Design department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the precision, compliance and quality of our manufacturing tools. Specializing in 2D/3D CAD programming, materials science, and geometrical measuring techniques, you will collaborate with a dedicated team to uphold compliance, enhance designs, and oversee the development and manufacturing of metal and composite tools. These tools are crucial for delivering aircraft parts with tight tolerances and excellent quality. Your work will involve close collaboration with product engineers, program management, and business development, engaging in dialogue with customers for new designs or implementing modifications and improvements. Your expertise will be integral to maintaining the excellence of our aerospace manufacturing processes.
Job description:
You will take ownership of a diverse range of tools and fixtures, with a focus on design for compliance and process optimization. These include milling fixtures for composite machining, and lay-up tools for composite manufacturing. A prior experience in composite manufacturing is therefore advantageous. Your responsibilities involve ensuring the tools align with customer requirements, design specifications, and industry standards like ASME Y14.5.
You will take a proactive approach to maintaining the high standards of our tool fleet while responding reactively to emerging production needs. Creative skills will be essential as you devise solutions to enhance production efficiency cost-effectively. For proto-typing and developing fast-response solutions we have an Onyx One manufacturing-grade 3D printer, that you will be expected to manage and use. Additionally, you will lead efforts to identify needs and secure investments for expanding our 3D printing capabilities.
While ensuring stable and compliant tools is at the core of our department, you will also stay current with evolving tooling and manufacturing technologies, to continuously improve overall tooling performance and time-to-market benchmarks. For example, we are implemeting advanced laser tracking to create a tool library of digital twins reflecting the actual production parts. Future possibilities such as robotic arms for tooling maintenance and exploring additive manufacturing for complex tools are on the horizon. Furthermore, advancing Terma's proficiency in data utilization, e.g., to elevate our form control processes, stands as a key priority. Your aspirations and expertise will define the extent of your role and involvement in such projects, that are aimed at advancing automation, digitalization, and the evolution of Terma's cutting-edge tooling solutions for the future.
In bullets, your work responsibilities include:
You will be part of a small dedicated team of highly skilled engineers and specialists, currently numbering 4 (including you). While each team member has a designated area of responsibility, we support each other and work with the mentality that every task is also the responsibility of the team. Tool Design has a wide contact area within the organization, meaning that we are always quite busy with a broad range of tasks. However, we nurture and protect a culture that is respectful of personal life, eg. working flexible hours ensuring a good work/life balance.
Why Terma:
We are an international company representing world class expertise, delivering complex and high-tech products. We value our colleagues and our meaningful contributions to securing people through advanced technology. During your onboarding in Terma you can expect a thorough introduction and training in our systems and processes, as well as a strong focus on teaching you useful new competences and further strengthening current ones, both professionally and personally. Our company culture is autonomous and engaging, and we acknowledge the importance of flexibility in a great working environment. On our different locations, we offer various social activities to bring all of our colleagues together.
Dream Candidate:
As an ideal candidate for this position, you have a technical mindset and embrace the significance of compliance, operating with a high level of integrity. Yourknowledge preferably stem from a combination of hands-on and theoretical experience. Your analytical and structured approach enables you to navigate complex requirements specifications seamlessly, translating them into precise tool drawings and materialization.
You are comfortable spending time on the production floor engaging with our skilled production staff identifying issues and working creatively and collaboratively on solutions. You therefore possess strong communication skills, coupled with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical individuals.
You may enter this role with a very strong practical experience and/or you may have a technical background, for example within a relevant field of engineering and knowledge within design, geometrical measuring techniques and tolerances. Experience within aerospace and composite manufacturing are plusses.
It is an advantage if you have experience or knowledge within some of the following areas:
