Frederiksberg C
Department of Food and Resource Economics invites applicants for a PhD fellowship in the Sociology of Food and Eating.
The PhD fellow will be part of the research project “Eating up the crisis: Cultural change seen through the lens of food (CrisisCultureFood)”, which is financed by the Carlsberg Foundation.
The position is available from 1st September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The project
CrisisCultureFood explores developments and changes in Danish food culture in the light of the ongoing climate crisis and the global inflation crisis. The research project will, with a prospective qualitative panel design, create knowledge about the unfolding process of how societal crisis interacts with food culture and food practices. The project is carried out by a research group led by Associate professor Kia Ditlevsen.
The PhD project aims to explore dilemmas around food consumption, and everyday strategies employed to cope with (potential) budget restrictions and the need for a green transition of household food practices. The PhD student will, in cooperation with a Postdoctoral researcher, conduct in-depth interviews with the entire panel (60 adults), and independently re-interview a subsection of it.
A five-month research visit to the Department of Sociology at the University of Bristol is included in the PhD project.

We are looking for candidates with a master’s degree in Sociology or Anthropology (or other relevant social science disciplines). The applicant must have strong competences in qualitative methods and have an interest in cultural analysis and food and eating.
