København N
The University of Copenhagen is seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD fellow to commence January 1, 2024, at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR), University of Copenhagen.
About Us
Our researchers share a common purpose as they seek to transform the basic understanding of the mechanisms involved in cardiometabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge towards new prevention and treatment strategies.
The Center has around 260 employees, spread across 21 research groups and 5 technology platforms, who work in a vibrant international research environment with a strong focus on interdisciplinary collaboration.
The Center’s research has resulted in seminal discoveries as to how genes, hormones, and environmental factors influence metabolic health and disease throughout life. You can read more about CBMR at www.cbmr.ku.dk.
Our Research
The Zierath Group investigates the interactions between intrinsic biorhythms and external perturbations such as exercise and nutrient provision to identify novel translational strategies for prevention and treatment of metabolic disease. You can read more about the Zierath Group here.
Project Description
You will be part of a project investigating how metabolism is controlled across the circadian cycle. Our preliminary evidence has identified how diet and exercise act as zeitgebers to reset the circadian clock. This project will build upon that foundational knowledge to investigate the environmental cues and molecular transducers that regulate circadian metabolism. In addition, we will investigate how this process may be dysregulated in disease states such as obesity and type 2 diabetes, using animal models and human clinical samples.
You will join a multi-disciplinary research team working on basic and applied research questions related to circadian rhythms, metabolism and exercise. Specifically, you will contribute to this aim by integrating multi-omic data to illuminate the molecular mechanisms regulating the interplay between metabolism and the control of the core circadian clock.
