København Ø

DFDS was founded in 1866, is headquartered in Copenhagen and listed on Nasdaq Copenhagen.
We provide ferry and logistics services in Europe and Turkey, generating annual revenues in 2020 of 14,0 DKK bn. More than 10,000 employees (incl. HSF) are located on ferries and in offices across 23 countries.

To over 10,000 freight customers, we deliver high reliability through ferry & port terminal services and transport & logistics solutions. And for five million passengers, we provide safe overnight and short sea ferry services.
We strive for continuous improvement of customer service, operational efficiency, development of digital capabilities, and for leveraging the strength of our European platform through continuous acquisitions.
In addition, we are determined to contribute to solving the environmental challenges of our industry and we have therefore amongst others declared a launch of our first green vessel by 2025.

The position:

As a transport and logistics provider, we are privileged to be able to connect people and companies across Europe with efficient transport solutions. However, as other industry players we are also generating emissions which urgently calls for greener services and solutions. At DFDS, we are committed to the environmental transformation of our industry, by finding short- and long-term solutions to how we can reduce our CO2 emissions. We do that through partnerships with customers, researchers, and peers within and outside the industry. Until recently, our main environmental focus has been on sea-based/vessel driven emissions (approx. 90% of total), but we are rapidly increasing our focus within the Logistics area as well – both within the DFDS fleet and our 3rd party suppliers (including trucks, terminals, warehouses and offices). We are therefore looking for Head of Sustainable Logistics, who can play a central role in enabling us to become industry leading in environment friendly Logistics services and solutions.

Reporting directly to EVP, Head of Logistics and member of Executive Management (EMT), you will be responsible for driving the global sustainability approach covering +7.000 employees, 90 different locations across 23 countries in Europe (incl. Turkey). The position will preferably be based in Copenhagen but can be considered other places in Europe, subject to the final position holder. You should in any case expect travel at a monthly basis, and more frequently in the beginning, in order to build solid relationships with key stakeholders (Logistics management team, the commercial organization, local operations and key clients).

Area of responsibility:

You will be the leading expert in identifying and implementing sustainable Logistics solutions, providing relevant stakeholders in DFDS with a clear framework and required standards for how to develop the business more sustainably. Initially, this will include 4 overall areas:

  • Set sustainability direction and governance for Logistics
  • Identify and support implementation of sustainable logistics solutions
  • Monitor and report sustainability progress.
  • Ensure a strong approach to emission data reporting for Logistics

With Logistics being a fast-growing business area in DFDS (including a recent acquisition of HSF Group), you will have a unique opportunity to set a common direction and standard for how Sustainability should be defined and implemented in Logistics. This includes a clear scoping of the area and a creation of the ‘as-is’ baseline, and a clearly articulated ambition what the ‘top-be’ state should be, short- and long-term.

As part of the above, we also expect you to be well grounded in understanding the industry, the operations and the main emission drivers, and also to be curious and well informed about current potential solutions to reduce emission. Further, we expect you to be knowledgeable about the requirements from our main clients and the macroeconomic trends driving the development of their expectations/new requirements, helping the commercial organization and the Logistics management team to be as proactive as possible on current and future customer requirements.

Last but not least, you will play a central role in defining a reporting structure which allows us to determine our ‘as-is’ stage of emissions, to measure progress – and to report this to relevant stakeholders internally and externally. This includes scoping of key KPI’s and implementation of appropriate systems and procedures.

Your ideal profile:

You have a strong experience from sustainability functions from transport and logistics industry, or from a supply chain function in a company using transport providers and a relevant higher educational background. You are familiar with the most common GHG reporting standards and frameworks. You are passionate about understanding the operational side of transportation, whilst you are particularly driven by identifying and implementing solutions which over time can transform Logistics to a zero emission industry. You thrive by working with others to find solutions, and you understand how to convey your expertise in a collaborative and inclusive manner, getting people to work with you through followership rather than mandates.

In addition, you

  • Speak and write English fluently (other European languages are seen as an advantage)
  • Have strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Are proactive and self-driven with the ability to influence and communicate effectively.

Apply now!
If you find the job interesting and you fulfill the expectations, we would like to hear from you! Please submit your CV and application in English, September 10th 2021. All applications will be treated confidentially. For clarifying questions about the position, please feel free to contact Niklas Andersson, EVP and Head of Logistics [email protected]. The position will be filled as soon as possible.

DFDS is committed to equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, age, and citizenship.
