DTU Wind Energy invites applications for a position as Head of Section for Structural Integrity and Loads Assessment (SIL) within the Division of Materials and Components. You will become part of the DTU Wind Energy management team, which consists of the Department director, three Heads of Division and thirteen Heads of Section.
DTU Wind Energy is a department at the Technical University of Denmark located on the DTU Risø Campus in Roskilde, close to Greater Copenhagen. The overall mission is to develop and create value using the natural and technical sciences and focusing on wind energy for the benefit of society. This includes research and education in siting and integration, wind turbine technology, and offshore wind energy as well as scientific advice and testing and other research-based services. The department is an internationally leading center in wind energy and cooperates with industry and institutions worldwide.
Your role
You will lead a section consisting of 7 highly skilled, experienced, engaged and autonomous employees including three Senior Researchers, one Researcher, two postdocs and PhD.
The section focuses on the development of probabilistic methods and applied data science for the reliable design of load-bearing components, as well as assess the integrity of operational turbine components within wind farms such as offshore foundations, bearings and sub-systems such as rotors, drivetrain and support structures.
Due to a broad and growing portfolio of projects, the SIL section is expected to grow with several positions to be recruited.
You will be responsible for the following:
- Develop a section with high academic and technical qualifications
- Develop and communicate clear strategic objectives and goals aligned with the division and department strategy
- Ensure and manage the quality of the section research
- Being personally active in research (and optionally in education)
- Engage the section in seeking and obtaining finance for future projects
- Participating in DTU Wind Energy management team and ensuring synergy across the organization
- Manage competence and talent development among section members
- Recruitment processes in the section
- Ensure well-being and professional development in the section
- Nurturing a creative and attractive working environment, with focus on cooperation, diversity and competency development
Visionary and modern people manager within Structural Integrity and Loads Assessment
You are a dedicated colleague and a talented leader with a solid background in structural design, reliability and loads assessment of load-carrying structures and components, preferably for onshore and offshore wind turbines (i.e. foundations, towers, drive train components, etc.). Alternatively, related background e.g. from the offshore industry.
You are expected to match the following criteria:
- Modern people management and visionary and motivating leadership skills
- A relevant higher education on a relevant discipline - MSc or Ph.D. level
- Proficiency in English is mandatory, and the candidate should be willing to learn Danish.
You may also recognize yourself in one or more of the following:
- Experience in academic management incl. resource management of specialist profiles, preferably research teams
- Experience in the design of structures and components for wind energy applications
- Experience in reliability assessment of structures
- Experience developing new tools for industrial applications in structural design
- Have preferably a publication track record on structural design, reliability or related topics
- Have a network in research and industry
- Both academic and industry experience are considered
- Full of initiative with strong communication skills

Salary and appointment terms
Terms of appointment and payment according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC) or any other relevant agreement.
The workplace is primarily DTU Risø Campus.
