København

The Humanitarian Disarmament & Peacebuilding unit is looking for an intern to become acquainted with the work within an international NGO and to support information management as well as general support to the country programmes.

Background

Humanitarian Disarmament & Peacebuilding (HDP) is one out of five core sectors within Danish Refugee Council (DRC) which specialises in Humanitarian Mine Action and Armed Violence Reduction. DRC is a non-profit organisation that works worldwide to help and protect refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and other conflict-affected persons.

The HDP mission is to create a safe environment where people can live free from armed violence and remnants of conflict. HDP strives to achieve this through Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) activities, focusing on landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW), as well as Armed Violence Reduction (AVR) programmes. The AVR component of our programming addresses both physical and psycho-social aspects of the threats posed by small arms and ERW. HDP’s work is vital in helping refugees, internally displaced people and other communities return to their homes when the conflict has ended, allowing them to make use of the land they were forced to leave behind and facilitating development.

Overall objective

The HDP unit is looking for an intern who will work at the DRC headquarter in Copenhagen. The intern will have the opportunity to become acquainted with the work within an international NGO and will have tasks related to supporting information management as well as general support to the country programmes. The intern will be given the possibility to work independently with different tasks that are related to his/her line of study and s/he will be given a thorough introduction to the working relations at the headquarters of an organisation that implements HMA and AVR activities in more than 20 countries.

HDP offers the intern the opportunity:

  • To gain experience working at an INGO;
  • To work independently with different tasks related to information management, operating procedures, proposal writing, quality management, and other tasks relevant to the intern’s profile;
  • To be a part of a small and dynamic team.

The intern will be supporting the HDP colleagues while gaining valuable working experience.

Basic requirements:

The intern will work both individually and together with other peers as a team. The intern should be able to meet the following requirements:

  • Be enlisted at a university for a relevant education at master’s level (this is a prerequisite for the internship);

  • Be effective in the use of Office 365 and have solid knowledge/work experience with Excel (being able to work with formulas and pivot tables);

  • Be able to work systematically with a good structure for the tasks that you are responsible for;
  • Have an eye for the detail and strive to get the job done.
  • Have the required permits to work and live in Denmark

Responsibilities

The intern will be working alongside other colleagues on matters concerning information, quality and data management. The intern is the focal point for receiving data from HDP’s country operations all over the world and will thus benefit from getting a close view and understanding of the outputs of a large humanitarian INGO.

The intern is expected to:

  • Communicate with different stakeholders in order to collect information required for various work processes ranging from grants management to proposal writing procedures;
  • Maintain and update the organisation’s file storage systems, i.e. collect, store and disseminate a set of documents (reports, reviews, etc.) in a periodic and systematic manner;
  • Collect data for the production of e.g. fact sheets and infographics;
  • Help organise meetings and appointments as well as produce and distribute minutes of meetings;
  • Act as a point of contact for ad hoc queries and requests for administrative support coming from the field and/or HQ;
  • Support in the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) processes in terms of making output indicators available and handling data collection;
  • Assist with preparation, formatting and proofreading of documents related to project proposals.
  • Work closely together with the Student Assistant

The student should be pursuing a graduate level degree in International Relations, Political Science, Development Studies or other related social science studies. Students with experience and interest in Information and Organizational Management will have an advantage.
