Job description

In the Self-Protection Systems software department we develop mission-critical software for military aircrafts as part of our proven Self-Protection Systems (SPS). We understand our customers’ domain and harsh environment, and we use established development processes tailored for aerospace to develop highly reliable systems, enabling our customers to meet their objectives.
The team delivers high-quality software to Terma’s suite of Self-Protection Systems for Jet Fighters, Rotorcrafts, Wide-Body and Special Mission Aircraft. We deliver software for both ground support (pre- and post-flight) and in-flight functionality hence covering the entire spectrum of the mission.
The team consists of 14 highly qualified embedded and Windows application software engineers and some external consultants. We work closely together in teams across embedded and application software, and we often plan our work in daily stand-up meetings.

The department is part of the Self-Protection Systems (SPS) organization which across Denmark and USA consist of around 60 engineers including systems, hardware, electronics, automated test equipment, and mechanical engineering. The SPS organization is part of Termas “Technology & Innovation” unit, counting +300 highly skilled colleges international.

Your primary responsibilities

We are looking for a Manager for the software department who will take on a mix of people leadership and operational tasks.

On the people leadership side you will be responsible for the ongoing wellbeing and development to ensure a thriving and high-performing team. You will, among other things, be responsible for coaching the team to become even better in their internal and external collaboration, and identify and eliminate obstacles to ensure progress on deliveries and a team that thrives. A large part of the work will involve stakeholder management towards Project Managers, Product Managers, other Line Managers, Business Development etc.
With an operational focus, you will be responsible for resource management, meaning that you are responsible for ensuring a good fit between capacity and demand. This includes ensuring that the right prioritizations between different projects are made and that it is in alignment with the rest of the Self-Protection Systems organization.

You will become part of a international leadership team for the entire Self-Protection Systems organization meaning you will have 5 experienced leaders as collages and to spare with, located in DK and US. This means that there will always be experienced and competent leaders to both challenge and support you.

Your responsibilities will among other things cover:

  • People Leadership of the team incl. competence development, knowledge sharing, 1-on-1, development dialogue, salary regulation, people review, allocation, staffing etc.
  • Resource management such as aligning capacity with demand in collaboration with the leadership team.
  • Take ownership in strengthening and improving our work methods and processes
  • Continuous communication with the team around upcoming projects, changes in priorities, strategic initiatives etc.

How to succeed in this position?

Need to have competencies are:

  • Excellent people Leadership skills and personality – you are a Leadership talent, who has got the right personality and capacity to motivate, engage, and develop both teams and individuals
  • Excellent stakeholder management and coordination skills – you are able to navigate both robust and trust-building in a international and complex landscape
  • Good communicator skills both verbally and in writing – you master perception and communication at Manager level and above
  • Experience with planning, making roadmaps, executing and budgeting – you have a high drive and possess natural leadership skills and personality to, e.g., drive deliveries effectively to completion.
  • An experienced software developer – you will be the “playing coach”, which means that you need both the professional software competences and experiences and the Leadership personality and motivation to thrive and become and success in this role

Nice to have competencies are understanding of agile development and (Agile) project management experience. Furthermore experience with task management and knowledge sharing tools like Jira and Confluence would be a plus. DevSecOps, Requirements management knowledge, C/C++ embedded systems on real time OS and Windows appplications in .Net C# are also strong nice to have qualifications.
