COO within green energy


For our client, who is a leading supplier of green energy, we are now looking for their new COO. The company is financially strong and is expanding their business, both in Denmark and aboard. You will as the new COO play a pivotal role in their professionalisation. The position is located centrally in Jutland.

The COO will lead every aspect of the wind services execution, focused on maximising the WTG portfolio performance and profitability within a culture of EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) excellence and risk management. Integrating into the existing Executive Management team the candidate will provide Expert Technical Asset management leadership and guidance.

The COO will also have responsibility for the smooth operation of the internal organisation in Denmark, the UK and any new markets that the company may enter in the future. The COO will ensure the organization has appropriate policies, procedures, systems, processes, and resources at all times and that these are developed and updated as the organization grows. The COO will be responsible for ensuring appropriate communication and coordination within the organisation and will ensure human resources are focused and developed effectively.

The responsibility of the COO with regards the physical assets will area starts at Financial Close of an acquisition or a development project.

An important part of the role as COO is the ability to work in a Danish and English business environment, handling the differences in culture business practices.

The COO will lead, coach, and develop the team of highly skilled professionals, with a number of direct reports, including an Operations Manager, the IT & Surveillance Manager, Construction Managers and the ISM Manger. As the organisation is lean, it is important that the new COO can perform the necessary analyses required for the area e.g., in regards of performance management. The COO must have a hands-on approach.

Performance Management.

  • Ensure reporting and forecasting on the operational metrics of the wind turbine fleet, including P/L.
  • Operation of the annual performance management process for all management team members and staff.

Leadership.

  • The COO will be member of the senior management team, which currently comprises the CEO and the CFO.
  • Ensure that employees are trained and developed to match market demands.
  • Able not only to manage people, but also to lead and coach them.
  • Attendance and participation at the board meetings.

Internal Operations.

  • Development and ongoing monitoring of policies, procedures, systems, and processes.
  • Ensuring management of the company in line with its governance rules.

Normalise the existing Operational Execution Practises (Priority 1,).

  • Lead the development and compliance with industry appropriate H&S Practises and Procedures i.e. LOTO (lock out tag out), Working at Heights, PPE etc. etc.
  • Deliver a strong Operational Excellence Program/Framework focused on Safety, performance improvements, long term asset integrity, forecasting, budgeting, KPI’s etc.
  • Develop the skills, capabilities, and overall human capacity of the Operations Department to deliver on the goals and strategy of the business.
  • Work with the Fleet Surveillance team to secure and optimise the Surveillance Platform and the wider Critical IT infrastructure for the business.
  • Active Operational Management, Site H&S Leadership, Quality Audits, Mentoring, Toolbox Talks etc.
  • Construction Project H&S Monitoring and Quality Assurance, Operational Readiness Process.

Develop a robust Life Cycle Extension Program for the Wind Estate WTG Fleet

  • Work with Service teams, OEM’s, and 3rd parties to develop new technology, inspections, repairs etc. to help extend fleet life cycle.
  • Optimise Stock Inventory and Procurement strategy to support fleet performance and life cycle.

Manage LTSA (Long Term Service Agreement) Fleet Growth in synch with development needs

  • Administer/Monitor OEM (original equipment manufacturer) LTSA contractual delivery.
  • Optimise on and offshore Fleet LTSA Operational performance

The ideal candidate should have solid technical experience from an existing WTG service provider or similar technical organisation.

Experience with UK HSE standards is a requirement.

As operations is ISO 9001 certified, knowledge about this is an advantage.
