A Ph.D. scholarship is available at the Department of Language and Communication, University of Southern Denmark, starting 1st December 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful candidate will work within the project Bodily and Robotic Interaction: A Transdisciplinary Concept of Rehabilitation Training (BARI) which is anchored in SDU-Trinity, a trans-disciplinary research environment dedicated to research in motion technology for humans (http://trinity-motion.org/Files/phdpositions_2020.pdf). BARI aims to develop a proof of concept for the use of robotic-assisted training in adolescents and adults with cerebral palsy (CP). The trainers are physiotherapists. CP is a condition that describes a group of disorders involving altered muscle tone, movements disorder, muscle weakness, ataxia and rigidity. Patients with CP may also be diagnosed with cognitive, language, speech and communication disorders which may affect everyday social interaction.

SDU-Trinity offers 3 interrelated Ph.D. positions as part of the project, which represent 3 distinct scientific areas: training physiology (health science), social interaction (humanities) and robotics (engineering). The Ph.D. project in Social Interaction aims at contributing to the development of a proof of concept by describing how the training activity is the product of the practices and coordinated multimodal actions of all the participants involved. The methodological approach of the study will preferably fall within the framework of multimodal ethnomethodological conversation analysis.

Applicants are expected to have an MA/MSc in areas such as Anthropology, Audiologopedics, Communication, Linguistics, Sociology.

Further information about the project can be obtained from Professor Gitte Rasmussen, Department of Language and Communication, T +45 6550 3116, e-mail: [email protected]
