Principal Digital IC Engineer
We are looking for a talented Principal IC Engineer to join our chipset department at Oticon where you will take part in developing our future hearing instrument integrated circuits.
We design and develop the chipsets used in our hearing instruments and accessories from the ground up. We strive to ensure technological leadership in our products by developing state-of-the-art innovative silicon solutions, featuring world-class performance in DSP processing power, audio quality, connectivity, artificial intelligence, and re-chargeability in the smallest size and with the lowest power consumption.
The Team
In Silicon Engines, we develop the chipsets used in our hearing instruments and accessories. We strive to deliver technological leadership through state-of-the-art innovative silicon solutions, featuring world-class performance in DSP processing, audio quality, connectivity, AI, and re-chargeability in smallest size and lowest power consumption.
We are 90+ engineers in the department, we use state-of-the-art tools, methodologies, and technologies, and have end-to-end chipset development capabilities.
The Digital IC Engineering team is a team of 20 digital IC design, verification, and tool engineers, each one being exceptionally good at what they do. We are organized in scrum teams with product owners and scrum masters. The team is overall responsible for making the chipsets from idea to characterization in the lab

The Role
You will be working in the Digital IC Engineering team on our next generation chip-sets.
You design & deliver mixed signal SoC’s and use tools/applications (i.e., Spyglass lint/CDC, CLP, Design Compiler etc.) to execute advanced architecture and design of multiple complex blocks and makes suggestions for design.
You leverage expert understanding of all engineering areas related to chipset development and drives alignment across the digital team to make high-level architectural and design decisions across different blocks of the chipset.
You will be expected to lead complex analyses, reviews analyses completed by others to identify where an issue has occurred, make recommendations for how to address issues, and identify patterns and implications for potential resolutions.
Are you the person we are looking for?
We are looking for a senior IC designer, with the skills and ambitions to become principal engineer or a principal egineer. We are looking for someone who can be part of developing not only their own, but the whole team’s competences in key areas of digital IC engineering. To be successful in this position, you should find it interesting to bring your knowledge into play.
We are looking for a team player, but you are also able to work in a self-driven environment based on freedom under responsibility. You have a sense for details, while still being able to maintain an overview. You take pride in delivering high quality solutions to the tasks you are given while being able to balance your solutions between perfection and “good enough”. You have a positive attitude and – of course – are passionate about IC design.
Experience and Qualifications:
Typically requires more than 8 years or more experience in digital design including RTL design experience. You should also posses:
- Knowledge of best practices with respect to implementation of digital logic especially with focus on power awareness in the design phase
- An Understanding of digital design flow including RTL simulation, logic synthesis, timing constraints, timing closure, STA, back annotation of parasitic, gate level simulation, equivalence checking
- An Understanding of Design Verification and the ability to write self-checking test suites
- Super user status of industry standard RTL Design & Synthesis tools. Knowledge of Extraction and STA methodology and tools
- A good understanding of flow automation scripts using Perl/Python, Tcl, and shell scripts
Furthermore, you should have knowledge and/or expertise with hands on experience in some of the following:
- Good knowledge of digital logic design, IP/SoC architecture
- Providing technical expertise for next generation initiatives
- SoC Architecture spanning digital, analog for mixed signal solutions
- Audio/speech digital signal processing technologies such as digital filters, FFT interpolators, decimators, decoders, voice recognition, noise cancellation.
- Scalar & vector processors
- Bus protocols & interconnects– AHB, APB
- Processor subsystems
- DSP
- Reset, Clocking and Boot Architecture
- Peripheral interfaces: MIPI, I2C, SPI, PCIE, UART
- Power and performance optimization, simulation and modelling
- ARM M- family architecture experience/knowledge - coresight
