ActionAid Denmark is looking for an experienced senior project management profile with solid competences within EU-funded projects and general project and programme cycles.

The position is based in the People-to-People within the International Program and Policy Team., The People-to-People unit manages projects and programs related to international volunteering and placement of professional Advisors as means to develop capacity of our partners in the Global South as well as advancing cross-country knowledge sharing and learning within AA Denmark’s international programs. More specifically, the unit implements the People4Change program and projects under the EU AID Volunteer Initiative.

The Senior Project Manager (SPM) will have a primarily focus on managing the current EU AID Volunteer projects and exploring opportunities for future international EU volunteer projects – in particular the EU Solidarity Corp’s humanitarian strand. For more information on the program, see here.

The People-to-People unit emphasize cross project cooperation and knowledge sharing, and as such the Senior Project Manager will to a limited extent also be expected to support areas within the People4Change program if needed and relevant!

As the SPM you will be responsible for:


Project Management

  • Project management of Youth-Led Volunteerism in Local Level Responses (YLVO) and EU Aid Volunteers Deployment (VOLEAD) projects, ensuring that the projects are on track, coordinating the work of project members, ensuring compliance by the consortium members and monitoring and evaluation in AADK and to the Education, Culture and Audiovisual Executive Agency (EACEA).
  • Cooperation and build donor relations to EACEA and other relevant EU agencies in close collaboration with the international fundraising unit and monitor emergent and relevant funding opportunities.
  • Collaborate and/or Lead in the development of new EUAID or other EU funded projects proposals.
  • Clarity of project work plans - this includes, uploading of financial, milestones and goal in the PME system and, develop relevant project documents as per AADK guidelines.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining assigned Grant Pages, Project Pages and Delivery Pages in AA Contract Management System (CMS)
  • Take part in the actual implementation of activities within the projects, which includes recruitment and placement of international volunteers, conducting and monitoring learning events etc.
  • Responsible for visibility activities within the projects – both externally and internally.

Cross-project learning & unit support

  • Join knowledge sharing/learning meetings related to international volunteering and best practices.
  • Coordinate and promote synergies/alignment between the People4Change program and EU volunteer programmes.
  • Support specific activities under the People4Change program according to needs and relevance.

It is expected that the SPM further collaborate on or lead in the development of new EU and non-EU funded projects proposals in cooperation with the International fundraising unit.

The job requires that you have:


  • Minimum 6 years of experience with Project and/or Programme Management.
  • Solid knowledge of budget management and other financial procedures related to the project/programme cycle.
  • Proven experience with EU compliance and the management of EU funded projects.
  • Experience with the development of proposals to institutional donors hereunder to the EU.
  • Experience in workshop facilitation and other learning tools.
  • Solid experience with international deployment of volunteers including with the EU AID Volunteer Initiative
  • Full proficiency in written and oral English.
  • A relevant academic degree within Development or Humanitarian Studies, Project Management or similar.

And it is an advantage if you:


  • Experience with humanitarian and/or development projects or experience from an international NGO or CSO.
  • Are familiar with ActionAid Contract Management System (CMS).
  • Are culturally sensitive - genuinely respects and values others, including colleagues with a different background or approach than you.
  • Are confident when taking the lead on operational/compliance work.
  • Have a diplomatic approach and take a constructive, problem-solving approach to the challenges you meet.
