København

Are you a person with solid experience in humanitarian/displacement issues who would thrive working in a generalist role in a team aiming to support DRC‘s field operations in Europe and to develop DRC’s presence in the same region? DRC is looking for a Programme and Operations Coordinator (POC) to join the Regional Office Europe team at our head office in Copenhagen. You will primarily support DRC’s country offices (COs) in Greece and Italy in implementing their strategic and operational work-plans, managing risks, ensuring compliance, day-to-day problem-solving, as well as mobilising support from various technical functions within DRC. This will require a person with maturity, experience and flexibility, who is capable of facilitating dialogue and developing good working relations and with colleagues in the field, in the Regional Office and at headquarters.

Who are we?

The Europe region consists of 7 COs in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Kosovo, Serbia and Ukraine. The COs address displacement-related issues in the individual countries but DRC Europe also has a strong ambition to work across the COs and to develop DRC’s operational presence and visibility in a broader European context. The Regional Office also plays a key role in facilitating co-operation across different units in DRC which all deal with aspects of the organisation’s EU engagement.

About the job

The position is located in the Regional Office Europe in Copenhagen. You will be part of a team of four persons and report to the Regional Director.

Your primary role is to provide daily operational support to our operations in Greece and Italy according to their strategies and work-plans as well as internal and external policies and procedures, and to ensure that risks are being properly managed. Through regular collaboration with field-based managers and colleagues, you also help to them to contextualise DRC’s policies and procedures, while also feeding policy and procedural gaps back to technical colleagues at headquarters when relevant. Based on your experience you are able to provide high-quality advice and support to the COs thus enabling them to ensure operational quality and compliance. You also play a key role in maintaining a strong relationship with donors and partners by contributing to ensuring the quality of reports and proposals that are submitted to donors. Finally, you are expected to contribute to ensuring the development and implementation of various regional/cross-country initiatives and functions in Regional Office.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a strong capacity as an experienced, flexible and service-minded problem-solver, who is able to navigate working relationships with multiple stakeholders and interests, and who is capable of mobilising and coordinating support for the COs from various partners and support functions across the organisation. In the fluid and fast-paced environment in which DRC works, we expect you to thrive in situations where tasks and responsibilities change and do not necessarily have clear solutions from the outset.

Moreover, we are looking for someone who meets the following criteria:

  • A minimum of 5 years of diverse experience within the sector - e.g. programme, operations, grants management, policy, finance or similar
  • At least 2 years of experience working in an operational context (either as national or expatriate staff)
  • A solid understanding of how the humanitarian system and the international NGO sector are organised
  • Documented experience working across different parts of an organization, preferably DRC or similar
  • Ability to travel on missions as required
  • Excellent team-working skills
  • Excellent communication skills - proficient in written and oral English
  • Experience working with donors to negotiate proposals and contracts is desirable
  • Relevant academic background.

All staff are expected to demonstrate DRC’ five core competencies:

  • Striving for excellence: Focusing on reaching results while ensuring efficient processes.
  • Collaborating: Involving relevant parties and encouraging feedback.
  • Taking the lead: Taking ownership and initiative while aiming for innovation.
  • Communicating: Listening and speaking effectively and honestly.
  • Demonstrating integrity: Upholding and promoting the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct in relation to DRC’s values and Code of Conduct, including safeguarding
