Senior Software Engineer
Role: Senior Software Engineer – Innovation (JL4)
Job Location: Copenhagen.

As a Senior Software Engineer within the Innovation Dock team you will gain broad business knowledge of the company’s activities globally and be working to bring our employees ideas to life to drive our strategy.
Our teams purpose is enabling innovation and experimentation across our employees. It is an exciting time where we are building a new squad to help refine, experiment and validate high potential value ideas in our innovation backlog and ensure success ones are transitioned to a funded capability in Maersk.
You will be exposed to a wide and challenging range of ideas driven from our innovation backlog. Engagement with key stakeholders across all levels in Maersk will be key to bringing the ideas to life and validating potential value.
Key responsibilities -
As a Senior Software Engineer in the innovation team you work across the early phases of the design cycle, by developing prototypes to refine and validate an idea.
Your daily work includes building prototypes with the cross-disciplinary team from a large backlog of potential ideas from our innovation repository.
You will engage with idea owners, Product Owners, customer insights teams, engineering teams and other stakeholders across the organisation to refine and validate an idea.
Early stage validation to refine, defer or cull ideas is critical.
You are responsible for developing early stage prototypes and working with the team to get feedback and validation. You will also play a crucial part in challenging and refining the scope and value of an idea.
You will be a self starter and work with other engineers in the team to develop successful prototypes. You will all have specific passions and areas of expertise to bring to the idea; whether that is front end development, back end, data and analytics, AI, etc. The skills required will vary widely from idea, but being able build prototypes in a short timescale for validation is key.
Maersk has a very active community across our different technology stacks who can help guide, support and share experiences and individual contribution to this community will be encouraged.
In short, we are looking for someone who wants to:
- Work closely with your peers in the team to distribute the work.
- Build prototypes for early stage idea validation across a wide ranging innovation backlog ; identifying the technology stack required, building out the capabilities and helping to define the architecture vision for the future state
- Work closely with idea owners, Product Owners, business stakeholders and engineering teams in exploring the problem space and develop prototypes.
- Guide and support both internal as well as, eventually, key customer teams to develop prototypes as part of hackathons and similar style activities.
- Contribute actively in Maersk’s community of practice.
- Transition working prototypes to platform development teams for adoption into their product features.
- Continuously stay up to date on relevant technologies and use this knowledge to provide the best experience to our customers.
- Promote and support company policies, procedures, mission, Maersk Values, and standards of ethics and integrity.
To do this job, we imagine you:
- Have a graduate Degree - B.E/BS/MS/PhD in any stream (Computer Science most preferred) or similar knowledge gained through vocational and technical learning.
- Substantial experience in software product engineering.
- Are a highly competent software engineer who has broad knowledge across the full stack with specialisms incorporating infrastructure, font-end, back-end, Chat bots, AI or data/analytics. To include one or more of:-
- Backend development through .Net or Java
- UI development for cross device experiences across PC, mobile and tablet on Flutter, React or Vue
- Public cloud experience (Azure, Google, AWS).
- General understanding about database technologies both document oriented and relational. Postgres/MS SQL, Cosmos/MongoDB, etc
- Expertise across Chat bot, AI, ML or data would be greatly beneficial.
- Broad infrastructure knowledge around network, storage, network and security.
- Applied experience in industry recommended software design, patterns and practices.
- Have proven experience in rapid prototyping and experimentation to test ideas quickly.
- Have a passion for putting the customer first and solving our customer needs.
- Are comfortable working directly with our internal customers and external customers to understand their needs, demo mock ups, gather feedback, etc
- Are willing to learn alternate tech stacks to support the specific needs of a prototype and the constraints of team, etc.
- Have a strong sense of ownership and commitment to grow and build product thinking, coupled with a strong passion for technology and innovation.
- Have good verbal and written communication skills in English.
