Kolding
Do you like to work with some of the latest mobile app architectures and technologies? Do you want to work within a great team with highly talented colleagues, where we inspire and challenge each other to become experts, and to make the best possible solutions for our customers?
Then we might have the right job for you…
What are we building?
Our software product is called EcoStruxure IT Expert. The system is used by Data Center Managers and Specialists to keep an eye on the health of their data centers. The product is a multi-tenant Software-as-a-Service product designed for scalability and high availability. It works like this: The customers install a “Gateway” server in their data center. The Gateway discovers infrastructure equipment in the data center and pulls runtime data from the equipment and pushes that information to our cloud systems. The customer can then access information and insights about their data center and get alarms if something is wrong - either via their smartphone or browser, which both connect to our cloud systems. Schneider also produces hardware for data centers, which is why we initially started creating software for managing and operating data centers.
Which mobile technologies do we use?
We typically start new development of new features with creating Mockup’s/Prototypes in Figma. Previously we were developing our Mobile Apps using Native technologies for Android and iOS, but today we primarily use Flutter. The mobile phone app and our web app accesses the application via JSON/REST, and the App Backend is developed using Java.
How do we work?
Our development process is agile - somewhat inspired by Scrum and Kanban. We use Git for development and try to improve our code in small increments that are continuously deployed to production (currently once a day). Each increment is created as a pull-request, which is peer-reviewed and automatically tested, before being merged to master. New features can be controlled by ‘Feature Flags’ until they are fully ready for production. Most teams are organized as Stream-Aligned teams with full end-to-end responsibility of a specific area of the application. The Mobile App team is a combination of a Stream-Aligned team with its own backlog of App Features, but most of the time the team works as an Enabling Team, supporting our Stream-Aligned Teams.
What is it like to work in software on our Kolding site?
On one hand, Schneider Electric is a big company. On the other hand, the software department in many ways works like a separate entity. That means we often get the best from both worlds:
• We get good things from working in a big company with a solid economy, e.g., maternity leave, little to no overtime, pension, health-insurance, an excellent canteen etc.
• Schneider Electric also offers great opportunities to grow our skills and career through education, attending conferences and working with highly skilled colleagues
• We get good things from the Kolding site working in semi-autonomous manner, which means the culture often feels more like a startup. We trust each other and because of little bureaucracy and a lot of freedom you can really make a difference
Our system is currently developed by 8 teams working together. 5 teams in Kolding and 3 teams in Boston, USA. We have flexible working hours and we currently have 2 team days at the office per week and the 3 remaining days you can either work at the office or from home (just coordinate with your team).
What do we expect of you?
We appreciate the advantages diversity brings, and we acknowledge that we all have strengths and weaknesses. Some of us are extrovert - some are introvert. Some like pair programming - some hate it. Some speak Danish - some don’t (we all speak English). The only thing we require, is that you accept, that your colleagues may be different than you, and that you treat them with respect.
From a technical point of view, we expect you to have a solid experience with Mobile App development. It is a plus if you have already worked with Flutter. If you don’t - but think you have other qualifications, that might be useful - e.g., from building a system like ours, or lots of experience with the other mobile technologies, then please apply for the position anyway and tell us what qualifies you.
The Mobile App team is a small team (3-4 people), so it would be great if you have experience with a leading role like, Product Owner, Scrum Master or Tech Leader/Team Leader, because we need you to take a leading role on the team.
Finally, it would be great if you are passionate about creating a great user experience, which in this case require interest in our domain and our users. Graphical skills and a good aesthetic sense are a plus as UI matters. Because most features are created with other teams or stakeholders, you see yourself as a good collaborator and a team player.
Interested?
If you have any questions regarding the position, please contact Software Manager Morten Moeller +45 2921 8419 or Talent Acquisition Country Partner Michael Christiansen at +45 6014 2840. Read more about us and meet some of our employees at www.se.com/dk
Are you interested in joining us on our mission to eliminate downtime and at the same time reduce the energy consumption in the Data Center, then please apply online and send us your motivated cover letter and CV as soon as possible.
