Kongens Lyngby

Do you want to bring quantum technology into action by building a quantum key distribution network in Denmark? Then we have a great opportunity for you!

Quantum key distribution (QKD) is a quantum technology that enables data encryption with future proof security in contrast to current cryptographic methods which can be broken by quantum computers. This makes QKD an important technology to protect governmental communication, critical infrastructure and financial data.

Our motivation is to deploy our continuous-variable QKD systems to establish a metropolitan and a long-distance quantum key distribution network in Denmark and to test possible governmental and other use-cases. The project is part of the EuroQCI initiative of the European Union.

Our QKD system QTREX is based on continuous variable technology with a working principle similar to telecommunication systems. Here you can find more information about our system:

The job
Your responsibility will be to develop software for our quantum key distribution system QTREX. You will

  • interface hardware and develop a software controlling the key distribution process and managing the subsystems
  • integrate and test externally developed QKD data processing software (Rust) and contribute to modules.
  • develop a monitoring interface (SNMP)
  • continue the development of our information reconciliation library (C++ and CUDA)
  • develop a graphical user interface for displaying basic system information
  • work with a team of engineers with backgrounds in electrical, quantum and telecommunication engineering
  • help with administrative tasks towards EU

Our expectations of you
You should have a strong background in developing software in some of the following languages and frameworks:

  • Python
  • Rust
  • C++
  • Cuda

Furthermore you should be familiar with Linux, Linux services, dbus, a GUI toolkit (for instance Qt) and git.

Moreover, you should be highly motivated and dedicated to develop Europe’s best QKD system, and you should be willing to work in larger teams.

What we offer in return
We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international atmosphere with the focus on research, teaching, innovation and scientific advice for the benefit of the surrounding community. We place emphasis on a high level of professionalism among our staff, so skills development is an integral part of our organization. We offer a great flexibility in the position. In the area of technical and natural sciences, DTU is one of the leading research and education institutions in Europe.

You will be working in the Quantum Physics and Information Technology Section of DTU’s Department of Physics. Our section offers a culturally rich environment comprised of around 40 people with diverse backgrounds.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 2 years.

Application and contact
Please submit your online application no later than 20 December 2022 (Danish time). Open the “Apply now” link, fill out the form and attach your motivated application, CV and exam certificates.

If you would like additional information about the position, please contact Associate Professor Tobias Gehring, [email protected] .

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, race, disability, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply.

DTU Physics is a modern department with an emphasis on strong professionalism. We want to be elitist in physics and we demand a lot of our employees and students.
