Do you want to bring quantum technology into action by building a quantum key distribution network in Denmark? Then we have a great opportunity for you!

Quantum key distribution (QKD) is a quantum technology that enables data encryption with future proof security in contrast to current cryptographic methods which can be broken by quantum computers. This makes QKD an important technology to protect governmental communication, critical infrastructure and financial data.

Our motivation is to deploy a metropolitan and a long-distance quantum key distribution network in Denmark and to test possible governmental and other use-cases. The project is part of the EuroQCI initiative of the European Union.

The job
Your responsibility will be to design, test and deploy a quantum key distribution network in Denmark. For this purpose you will

  • perform network design by communicating and coordinating with stakeholders of QKD use-cases, IT departments and telecom operators
  • establish a network test lab at DTU
  • evaluate, acquire and test QKD systems and their integration with key management and cryptosystems
  • coordinate the deployment of the network and be responsible for its operation
  • work closely with a team of QKD system engineers, companies and researchers as well as technicians from the Danish e-infrastructure cooperation DEIC
  • help with administrative tasks towards EU

Our expectations of you
You should have a strong background in one of the areas of telecommunication networks, quantum communication, practical cryptosystems or similar. Moreover, you should be a strong communicator and be able to drive collaboration with IT departments, telecom operators and use-case stakeholders.

Furthermore, you should be highly motivated and dedicated to establish Europe’s best QKD network, and you should be willing to work in larger teams.

What we offer in return
We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international atmosphere with the focus on research, teaching, innovation and scientific advice for the benefit of the surrounding community. We place emphasis on a high level of professionalism among our staff, so skills development is an integral part of our organization. We offer a great flexibility in the position. In the area of technical and natural sciences, DTU is one of the leading research and education institutions in Europe.

You will be working in the Quantum Physics and Information Technology Section of DTU’s Department of Physics. Our section offers a culturally rich environment comprised of around 40 people with diverse backgrounds.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The employment is until 30 June 2025.

Application and contact
Please submit your online application no later than 20 December 2022 (Danish time) . Open the “Apply now” link, fill out the form and attach your motivated application, CV and exam certificates.
