FBK is opening a new position in the Energy Efficient Embedded Digital Architectures - E3DA research unit of DigiS research center.
The E3DA research unit focuses on wireless resource-constrained embedded technologies with a system-level approach targeting energy efficiency and Artificial Intelligence (AI) embedding at the very edge. Energy Efficiency in networked embedded systems is one of the leading research challenges, particularly in recent years where the pervasiveness of smart, tiny low-cost electronics and new wireless protocols availability is enabling the Internet of Things (IoT). The activity spans from hardware-software development for low-power wireless smart sensing devices to power management techniques, low power multi-hop wireless protocols, and on-board processing in resource-limited devices. The unit applies the research results in several application domains, such as those typical of pervasive and wearable computing and IoT.

Job Description
The Energy Efficient Embedded Digital Architectures - E3DA Research Unit is looking for a young researcher in the field of AI applied to audio/vision data in resource-constrained energy-efficient embedded systems, such as IoT and wireless sensor systems.
The activity will therefore include:
The ideal candidate should have:
- Signal processing from sensor technologies such as audio and vision sensors, but also biosignals and other kinds of sensors, sensor interfacing, sensor data acquisition in embedded systems, sensor data analysis; wireless transceivers, communication protocols and interfaces (e.g., I2C, RS232… Bluetooth, etc.); knowledge of tools and platforms in the embedded system field;
- Know-how in developing algorithms, advanced filters, machine learning techniques, deep learning techniques;
- Essential experience in embedded systems programming, microcontroller programming (preference for 32-bit ARM cortex);
- Fundamental experience with Python, C or C++ and/or Java language programming, MATLAB-like tools;
- Basic experience with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, Keras, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, and vision libraries such as OpenCV;
- Experience in PCB design.
Employment
Type of contract: fixed Term Contract
Work hours: full-time (38 h/per week)
Gross annual salary: about 34.560 €
Start date: May/July 2021
Duration contract: 12 months

Job Description
The Energy Efficient Embedded Digital Architectures - E3DA Research Unit is looking for a young researcher in the field of AI applied to audio/vision data in resource-constrained energy-efficient embedded systems, such as IoT and wireless sensor systems.
The activity will therefore include:
- Research and development activity in the aforementioned areas, i.e., in the field of energy-efficient embedded system;
- Support to the activity related to the ongoing National and International research projects, which can span from scientific and development contribution to the tasks in charge to E3DA, participation in meetings, presentations of the E3DA work, and coordination of the E3DA team project contribution when appropriate;
- Dissemination of scientific results (article writing in International Conferences and Journals, presentation in local and international events, demonstration of achievements and prototypes);
- Support in the fundraising activity of the unit;
- Support the unit’s activity and research strategy, teamwork, supervision of students, interns, and younger researchers when appropriate;
- Cooperate with the current researchers at FBK.
The ideal candidate should have:
- MSC in computer science, electronics engineering or equivalent (e.g., Physics/Mathematical science)
- A combination of competencies related to both energy efficient embedded systems and AI, for example:
- Signal processing from sensor technologies such as audio and vision sensors, but also biosignals and other kinds of sensors, sensor interfacing, sensor data acquisition in embedded systems, sensor data analysis; wireless transceivers, communication protocols and interfaces (e.g., I2C, RS232… Bluetooth, etc.); knowledge of tools and platforms in the embedded system field;
- Know-how in developing algorithms, advanced filters, machine learning techniques, deep learning techniques;
- Essential experience in embedded systems programming, microcontroller programming (preference for 32-bit ARM cortex);
- Fundamental experience with Python, C or C++ and/or Java language programming, MATLAB-like tools;
- Basic experience with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, Keras, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, and vision libraries such as OpenCV;
