DanChurchAid (DCA) is looking for an energetic and proactive Manager for a Humanitarian Project that supports coordination of humanitarian actors responding to the needs of people caught in conflict in the border areas of South Sudan and Sudan. The position oversees a highly innovative project that seeks to enable holistic, locally-led responses to complex emergencies with access constraints and high levels of insecurity. It provides opportunities to develop new ways of supporting humanitarian innovations and inform emerging new practices for humanitarian programming within conflict areas. This exciting project requires an exceptional individual who can move between provision of hands-on operational support in the most challenging and risky of field conditions, to high level policy and donor environments developing new modalities to respond to crises.
The CU Manager will together with a team of 6 staff members be responsible for the following:
• Facilitate strategic planning, coordination and networking between all stakeholders to facilitate the communication, joint planning and collaboration;
• Facilitate operational coordination in the field and provide direct operational logistical support to contribute to timely and effective implementation;
• Coordinate monitoring and evaluation services to help all agencies learn from the wider range of on-going activities and projects;
• Support and undertake humanitarian advocacy, lobbying and fundraising;
• Providing advice and guidance as appropriate to donors, diplomats, implementing agencies and other humanitarian/protection actors on feasibility of different options for engagement.
Core functions
The overall responsibility of the Project Manager is to oversee the on-going development, implementation and review of project services for the humanitarian actors in the operation area. The primary responsibilities of the Project Manager are:
• Operational and Strategic Coordination and representation
• Ensure effective and quality information sharing
• Oversee grant management and fund raising
• Ensure safe operations at all field locations
• Manage a team of 6 staff in three locations
Duty station and movement
This position is based in Juba with an extensive amount of travel between different locations and the Manager has to be comfortable to be constantly on the move. Time spent at field locations should make up 50% of the manager’s time.
Your profile
You have a relevant university degree and are an outgoing, results-oriented and proactive person with at least 7 years relevant work experience, incl. work in complex humanitarian situations in Africa and programme management. Previous work experience in either Sudan or South Sudan of at least 5 years is mandatory.
You are interested in challenging humanitarian norms and institutionalising new and creative ways of responding to CPEs and in managing risk. You are a champion for supporting locally led approaches and ready to think outside the box to produce results. You are confident in the role as manager, innovative, good motivator and you work with a hands-on approach. You like to assist with practical solutions to concrete problems. You are a proven facilitator with excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills, you are flexible and able to adapt to a multi-cultural environment. You have knowledge of M&E, food security and extensive knowledge of working with grant management and donor relations. You have a good understanding of working with many stakeholders and are able to both assist and learn from local partners, while also having a proven capacity for effective self-management. You are fluent in written and spoken English. Working knowledge of Arabic an advantage.
