I’m really excited to tell you about this role, that I have vacant in my team…
… as it is a role, I find both intriguing, challenging and utterly important.
In short, it’s ensuring that Maersk have qualified seagoing colleagues. Yes I know, no pressure or anything 😊 But it is what will describe this role best; to make sure we always equip our seagoing colleagues with the right training, the right content at the right point in time.
The role in itself is new, the concept is not.
It is a new role in terms of us deciding, that we wanted a dedicated responsible in each geographical region, which means you will have a colleague in India and Philippines, as well as work with the Global Training Lead located in Copenhagen. You will collaborate closely with all three, so I hope you took the virtual lessons from 2020 and are now skilled in ensuring good working relationships virtually.
I would describe your role as having three primary components to it:
1) Manage a large portfolio of existing trainings including their vendors; We already today have a lot of training which is delivered by different vendors. You’ll will manage our part of that portfolio for Europe.
2) Rethink our training methodology across the large training portfolio; We always have an opportunity to improve and one of the first tasks you will take on, together with the Global lead, is to rethink how we do all of our training. Start from the beginning and work your way through each training – is this the best way we do this?
3) Administrative tasks related to facilitate trainings e.g. make sure we have prioritized the right participants for an onsite training or make sure the bookings are made in the right system, invoices are paid to our vendors and being responsible for our budget
The tasks ahead of us is excited but not necessarily easy. You will engage with a lot of internal and external stakeholders to ensure quality and delivery of trainings – and most importantly, you will engage with our seafarers to make sure, we train them in the right way.
The engagement with the seafarers you should look forward to, it is inspiring to work with and support colleagues who everyday connects the world. This is also why this role is important, we need to deliver the best possible conditions for our colleagues to learn.
When you and I collaborate on delivering this, I hope you bring in some fresh insights on what good training would look like, but also, that you are not new to managing large portfolios/projects.
This will also help in your daily collaboration with the Global Training Lead whom you can also use to spare with on this topic. Hopefully you already know the wonderful Maritime world – and if not, I expect you to have a steep learning curve and make good use of your knowledgeable colleagues.
So, how do I encourage you into joining me? I’ll do my best here and talk to you about your future colleagues, who are so kind, so knowledgeable and so fun to be around. It is just good energy to work with them and I would hope that for your first day, we can all be in office.
Other than that I can say, that you will be a fundamental part of defining how we take ‘caring for our seafarers’ to the next level through training in the Europe team. I will personally hope to use you as a sparring partner for this.
Last but least I could probably mention we always have cake in the canteen on Wednesdays – and I promise it’s not because it is fish day that day as well.
