København K
I’m Julie and the Head of Marine People Europe – and I’m searching for a new team-lead to join me in the journey we are embarking on to strengthen our overall engagement with our Seafarers.
An exciting role where you will be When describing what we do in Marine People NEU in short it is taking care of our seafarers.
We are overall responsible for ~1200 mostly European seafarers whom we take care of.
We have the E2E management of recruitment, performance management, talent management, training, retention and exit. Our days are a strong combination of daily operational tasks such as “check the emails to see whether we have booked all the right trainings” to dedicated conversations with the seafarers on performance, wellbeing and development.
It can sometimes be a challenge to balance doing both and we work on being better at this every day.
It goes without saying that we as a team are truly passionate about making a difference to our seafarers and we would expect you to be the same.
At Maersk we value the diversity of our talent and will always strive to recruit the best person for the job – we value diversity in all its forms, including but not limited to: gender, age, nationality, race, sexual orientation, disability or religious beliefs.
We are proud of our diversity and see it as a genuine source of strength for building high performing teams.
You should expect that your days would include everything from conversations with a Captain, to coaching a team-member on how to best go about a difficult conversation and working on flag state matters with the team, such as reporting, application and administration.
You will often be the first point of contact for union related matters and you should be motivated by both working with internal and external stakeholders especially when it comes to the current CBAs under our scope and hence an advantage if you have previously worked within Marine HR
The team you will lead consist of 8 diverse profiles; some have been seafarers themselves, some have worked in the army, some with HR background and among them they speak 7 languages.
As a team they really help each other out. I’m a part of their daily chat, and if anyone have a problem it doesn’t take more than 1 minute for another team-member to react.
In these virtual times, I’m quite proud to see how well they manage.
I can honestly say that I enjoy engaging with this team every day and I would personally hope, that when you take over as a team lead, you will invite me to the team events.
These guys are great.
What I’m really hoping you will bring to the table is a strong leadership and HR toolbox. This team is precious to me, and I expect you to take good care of it.
To me that means, that you have previous management experience, but also, that you can lead larger projects and ensure strong stakeholder management prior to making decisions that will impact our business.
To be a success it will require an analytical mind combined with a proactive approach.
I envision you normal reaction will be something like: “Let me just make sure I have received the input from Mona and Niels on this, but the I’ll get it done” and when we discuss how we can improve our performance conversations, you will say: “I have a great idea, we did something like that In my previous job and what we saw was…”
On my end, I’ll promise to do my very best to make you succeed every day.
What that means for you we will define together – but I promise that I’ll have your back, empower you and do my best to remove the roadblocks that you cannot remove yourself.
I hope you’ll join me on this journey.
