Maersk Technology is looking to strengthen its leadership capability with an experienced Engineering Manager for the business domain of Ocean Capacity Management. We are hiring for a leader in the Maersk Technology Service Delivery Platform, which is responsible for building and running digital technology used in Maersk’s ocean operations. We are looking for an engineering manager to take responsibility for building software products for supporting and automating day-to-day capacity management decisions in Maersk’s global business. You will be leading 3 scrum teams consisting of a mix of software developers and data engineers. The teams are supported by architects and UX designers shared with other teams. We are placed together with key business stakeholders to ensure close collaboration with the business. The scrum teams are working within the Dynamic NeT product suite.

Your place of work will be at Maersk headquarters in Copenhagen.

Key responsibilities


You will be responsible for the technology delivery to support capacity management in operations. This is delivered by our internal software engineering teams, in collaboration with the service delivery product owner team and ocean operations functional process owner team.

The most critical tasks in this role are:
• Serving as the Maersk Technology owner for all initiatives within the business capability of Ocean Capacity Management, being fully responsible for the growth and success of technology outcomes in this area.
• Successfully delivering product(s) in the capability using the appropriate agile methodology, continuously learning and evolving. Driving agility and quality to ensure the team delivers the right quality product. Managing overall deployment and quality of software and technology operations in your area.
• Building and developing a global team, ensuring they remain motivated to deliver on the bold growth and service objectives in the Maersk Technology mission, travelling as needed to Maersk locations to meet and work with development team members based abroad. Championing the team to make sure they collaborate, communicate and focus on what is important.
• Seeking out and refine new opportunities that can be served by the business capability, in partnership with Maersk product owners. Collaborating cross-functionally to grow and develop top-level company outcomes (NPS, Revenue, EBIT), with Product Owners, Portfolio Managers, and Enterprise Architects.

The key skills that will be required in this role are:
• Technology Excellence:
• Hands-on experience with software engineering, .NET, micro-services architecture, and event-driven architecture.
• Hands-on experience with cloud technologies, preferably on Azure cloud.
• Experience with agile practices, CI / CD, DevOps, and automated testing.
• Performance & leadership
o Demonstrated ability to lead teams, including senior individuals and groups, determining and delegating management responsibilities. Able to set the example for proactively building working relationships within the team, acting as an escalation point for staff and ensuring relationship challenges are addressed.
o Contribute to the building of a strategically agile culture. Identifying training and development needs. Able to lead the ongoing professional development of the teams and the promotion of best practice. Can mentor and influence senior individuals with their career opportunities and contribution to the organisation.
o Able to lead on formal processes such as compensation negotiations and disciplinary procedures, actively managing both strong and poor performance.
• People & organisation planning:
o Take overall responsibility for staff planning, recruitment, selection, assessment, on-boarding and transitioning of team members. Ensuring the correct permanent/vendor blend and location strategy compliance.
o Supporting the recruitment team members across the department. Ensure all the teams are appropriately sized and have the correct skill blend to be effective.
o Leads the development of plans to ensure that the organisation has appropriately skilled staff to meet organisational objectives and commitments.
• Technology planning & transformation:
o Engage with and influence senior stakeholders and teams through change and transformation, ensuring that technology is managed to provide agreed levels of service and outcomes.
o Take full responsibility for budgeting, estimating, planning and objective setting. Manage risks/issues and budgets through the full life cycle of the product – including support and decommissioning.

• Understanding the Maersk Technology strategy and leading your team in executing it successfully, including contextualising these strategies for your business capability area.
• Foster a culture of honesty and trust, supporting the resolution of issues and conflicts.
