As a Lead Platform Engineer within our Cloud Engineering and Architecture team, you will be a key driver and doer in building the underlying platform and capabilities that will enable our development teams to realise their potential and deliver for our global customer base.
Your focus will be on creating a platform that our Product teams build on and that gives our development community the best developer experience available.
To realise Maersk’s “One Customer Journey”, a consistent and resilient platform is essential. You will be key in realising this platform and the capabilities that live within it.
To successfully bring this platform to fruition, we are looking for key individuals to join our Cloud Platform Engineering and Architecture team to help create our next generation development and hosting platform.

• Establish technical standards and drive Maersk’s overall technical architecture, engineering practices, and engineering methodologies.
• Work on our hardest problems, building high quality, architecturally sound systems that are aligned with our business needs.

• You will be a pragmatic visionary who can translate business needs into workable technology solutions. Your expertise is deep and broad. You are hands on, producing both detailed technical work and high-level architectural designs.
• Defines and owns high level architecture designs and technology roadmap with the associated release goals.
• Defines and develops POCs for new and upcoming strategic technology solutions.
• Defines team wide engineering best practices and mechanisms to measure the adoption.
• Drives technical architecture conversations with the prospective clients.
• Coaches, develops and mentors engineers and be a member of the hiring panel.
• Representing the Maersk team in external technology events and conferences.

We are looking for full stack engineers with preference for staff that can provide expert coverage over three primary areas, plus some ability across all areas; bracketed technology is desirable.
• Colo – racks, servers, physical networking, integrating network carriers, storage, heat/power, hands & eyes
• IaaS - Linux, VMs (Openstack, Nomad/Consul), Opensource Kubernetes, Cloud Kubernetes, Containers, Networking
• Integration – CDN/DDOS (Akamai, Cloudflare), API (Apigee, Kong), Events (Kafka), Reliable Messaging (RabbitMQ/ActiveMQ, Solace)
• DevOps - Git (Github), Github Actions, Opensource CI/CD, Cloud CI/CD
• Observability – Metrics (Prometheus), Logging (ELK), Tracing (Opentelemetry), Notifications (Pagerduty), UI (Graphana)
• Datastores - SQL, NOSQL (key-value, document, graph, timeseries), Filestore
• Frontend – UI (React, Vue.js, Javascript)
• Backend – API, CLI, process orchestration/choreography, Golang, Java, Domain driven design
• Opensource – Track record of community activity and contribution
Key skills:
• Strong Java or Golang, plus other language exposure
• Experience of at least two clouds, one of which must be Azure, AWS or Google
• Strong Linux admin
• Cloud infrastructure and container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Strong understanding of microservice and mini-services based architectures and how to achieve
• Experience in helping leading development lifecycle process, best practices and operating distributed cloud-based micro services
• Good experience building systems based on design patterns such as Domain Driven Design, CQRS, Event Sourcing and Event Driven Architecture
• Excellent communication skills, solid work ethic, and a strong desire to write production quality code.
• Broad knowledge of programming languages, operating system principles, networking, and software development best practices.
• Experience of designing systems or components on large projects (£5M)
• Experience of working with offshore teams
• Experience of Test-Driven Development approaches
• Demonstrable high levels of integrity
