We offer

The Head of Quality, Environment and Security is a Director level position for an experienced professional within the Marine QHSSE profession. You will report to me (Head of Marine Standards & DPA).

It is a central role in Maersk Fleet Management and Technology (FMT) and as part of the Marine Standards leadership team you will have a great opportunity to shape the future work environment for seafarers in Maersk. The role will be crucial in shaping the future for how we operate our vessels ensuring that we simplify and digitalize our ship management function keeping our seafarers ease of business top of mind.

You will be responsible for the environmental management onboard our vessels including shaping the plans for our ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) category of ‘ecosystem health and biodiversity’ and to ensure we manage our quality processes including the maintenance of our ship management applications. In this role you will also be the Company Security Officer (CSO) for the Maersk Fleet.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visible leadership and necessary cross-functional alignment to FMT’s quality, environment, compliance and security agenda for the vessels operating under Maersk’s DOC (approx. 300 vessels), while continuously improving and keeping up to date the company's guidelines and procedures.
• Lead a team of approx. 20 Marine Standards colleagues located in Copenhagen and Mumbai in accordance with company procedures.
• Act as CSO for the Maersk feet supported by your two deputies. In addition, help out with general security issues pertaining to our chartered fleet.
• While promoting the company's interests maintain and develop dialogue with all relevant internal and external stakeholders within all areas of responsibility.
• Help ensuring that Maersk ship management operate fully compliant with relevant regulations, rules and conventions, that our management system is aligned with the company's core values as well as ensures that our vessel management is simplified and prepared for future digital needs.
• Promote good environmental practices and awareness among FMT sea and shore colleagues supporting our ISO14001 certification including ensure preparation, implementation, and improvement as well as simplification of the company’s management system.
• Lead and sponsor projects within your area of responsibility. Ensure that questions on environmental, quality and security issues are responded to including resolution of related issues arising from operations.
• Develop and track our plans for Ecosystem Health and Biodiversity in accordance with our approved ESG strategy.
• Support the Maersk crisis manager, participate and prepare for crisis response to major sea security incidents
• Lead the user-related implementation of our ShipManager system platform including enhancing the functionalities of the different modules in corporation with our IT/tech team and our platform organization.
• Ensure that the technical documentation for the vessels is complete and being maintained
• Ensure that the company is prepared for- and aligned with relevant marine regulation
• Support the process for vessel takeovers including vessel certification, PMS coding etc.

We are looking for

You are a senior QHSSE professional with several years of leadership experience from a similar position within the Marine / Ship Management / Offshore industry and you are experienced in how to develop and motivate high performing teams.

You come with a strong project management and leadership toolbox. A lot of what we do is daily operations and support to our vessels, but with the journey we are on, we need you to be able to also drive strategic important projects including for the ESG agenda.

You are on top of what are the micro and mega trends within Ship Management including regulatory developments affecting vessel operation. You understand the complexity of ship management likely because you have been an officer yourself in the past or have spent a lot of years in the industry. Despite of the complexity you have proven through your past work that systems can be simplified to support the seafarers’ engagement, motivation as well as support cultural change.

You have worked with ship and quality management applications in the past, understand planned maintenance and procurement systems and how to work effectively with data to improve operations.

Formally you are a trained and experienced CSO as per ISPS code and likely trained auditor in several ISO standards as well as the ISM code. You have likely sailed as a deck, engine or dual officer in the merchant fleet or you have equivalent experience.
