The Director of Business Planning & Forecasting provides forecasts, analysis, and actionable insights that lead to the achievement of strategic and financial goals for Europe and the rest of the world, except the US. Working cross-functionally with Management, Finance, Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain and Marketing Research, this role provides forecasting support for Orphazyme’s pipeline products. This includes developing forecasts, long-range plans, budgeting and supply plans for pipeline evaluations.

With direct report to Chief Financial Officer.

Your main tasks are:

  • Develop models for sales trending, forecasting, business planning, and long-range planning for pre-launch/pipeline products
  • Responsible for budgeting:

    • Budget process and oversight
    • Calculate, monitor and maintain project budgets, including forecasting and managing of risks
    • Design effective budget models
    • Analyze financial information to ensure operations are within budget
    • Present annual budgets to senior managers
    • Review budget requests for approval
    • Forecasting of future budget needs
    • Design and implement effective budgeting policies and procedures


  • Provide forecast outputs to Management, Finance, Marketing, Sales Operations, and Supply Planners for use in official financial forecasts, sales quotas and incentive comp, and supply plan forecasts
  • Serve as the forecasting lead on product data and reporting teams in order to leverage all relevant data to provide insights into forecast assumptions
  • Work closely with the team that delivers Customer Insights to use existing market and competitor insights to inform forecasts and collaborate on forecast activities
  • Lead cross-functional teams to determine appropriate forecast model designs, formulate key assumptions, and align with business partners
  • Monitor company and market sales, analyzing relevant data sources to explain variances
  • Collaborate with Market Access to ensure that relevant distribution and rebate agreement impacts are incorporated into forecasts and plans
  • Use quantitative analytics in support of tactical and strategic decision making
  • Proactively identify forecasting and marketing research needs, develop plans, and provide input into business development, business planning, and budgeting processes for key activities
  • Anticipate and evaluate information needs of internal partners
  • Provide forecast support for business development opportunity assessments

Your qualifications are 5 – 7 years of experience with forecasting, financial modelling, valuation, and/or decision analysis from the pharmaceutical industry. Moreover, you have experience with pharmaceutical pipeline and brand forecasting (preferably a mix of operational & strategic) together with mastery of relevant forecasting, analytical, and market research concepts and framework.

You have a relevant Master’s Degree, MBA or other advanced degree preferred.

You are a person with a strategic mindset but can also focus on tactical and operational issues and you can influence senior leaders on critical decisions. You are comfortable rolling up your sleeves to get things done and the next moment being part of deeply complex strategic discussions. You have extensive knowledge and use of both primary research and secondary data. Moreover, you manage ambiguity by questioning data and/or stakeholders for further nuanced information together with the ability to operate on less than perfect data, by having a sound logical framework. You can develop new ways of thinking about a problem in order to provide an effective solution. You can defend a position when necessary, particularly around forecast assumptions, and you are persuasive in negotiations (especially as it relates to senior/executive management). You must possess strong leadership skills and be able to communicate clearly with a wide range of constituents, across multiple geographies. It is essential that you demonstrate a continuous commitment to the quality process to ensure quality of deliverables meets or exceeds the team’s standards. Finally, you must have solid communication and relationship building skills.
