We are now looking for the new Head of Audit to join Group Internal Audit to be responsible for auditing the key models, including credit risk (IRB), counterparty credit risk (IMM) and market risk models (IMA) in line with ECB expectations.
About this opportunity
Welcome to Group Internal Audit (GIA). We are an independent unit mandated by the Nordea Board. Our purpose is to support the Group Board and Executive Management in protecting the assets, reputation and sustainability of the Nordea Group. We do so by evaluating and reporting on Nordea’s risk management, control environment and governance processes to ensure that the Group to achieve its business objectives in a well-controlled manner.
The Model Risk team within GIA is responsible for providing audit assurance over controls covering end-to-end model lifecycle, including model governance, model development, implementation, monitoring and independent model validation.
What you’ll be doing:
- Developing and executing the Group Internal Audit’s strategy for Model Risk
- Performing audits assessing Nordea’s governance, risk management and control processes
- Contributing to the delivery of GIA’s project portfolio
- Liaising with, and supporting your Head of Audit colleagues in other teams, with respect to Model risk impacting their areas
- Contributing to continuous risk assessments to direct assurance activities towards the significant risk areas
- Act as a role model for partnership across Nordea, working proactively with the Business area and Functions across the bank to deliver strong independent assurance that is relevant and aligned to business objectives.
- Actively engage with relevant external bodies (audit round tables, conferences, IIA events, or similar) to increase your, and your team’s understanding of industry issues,
- Leading and developing your team from a values and culture perspective and by motivating the people you work with in order to strengthen leadership and team deliveries, both related to functional deliveries and leadership development,
- Communicating clearly and effectively to the entire organisation about strategy and business plans.
GIA Model Risk is based in Copenhagen and Poland, but you can be based in any of the Nordic capitals.

Your experience and background:
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of model development or model validation techniques covering (any combination): credit risk, market risk, pricing, stress testing funding or liquidity models
- Strong understanding of end-to-end model lifecycle (e.g. model development, implementation, validation, monitoring)
- Practical understanding of relevant regulatory environment, including model risk management best practices, particularly with respect to ECB requirements.
- Strong experience of engagement with Regulators such as the ECB
