Head of Counterparty Credit Risk Models, Copenhagen/Stockholm
Dedicated and self-driven individuals are invited to apply for the role as Head of Counterparty Credit Risk Models (CCRM) in Risk Models at Nordea, Copenhagen/ Stockholm.

Risk Models is advancing Nordea’s risk models for Counterparty Credit, Market, and Credit Risk in terms of model-development, -deployment and -analyses. The modeling team is currently preparing the model for go-live. In general, CCRM is developing in dialogue with an external software partner – based on in-house developed prototypes, methodological and regulatory requirements and analyses. In complement, CCRM develops and maintains internally all monitoring tools to assess the model performance (e.g. back testing, pricing controls, etc.). In collaboration with IT developers, CCRM is building out the integration with Nordea’s new risk and valuation IT platform to unlock synergetic benefits between risk disciplines. The team’s objective is to create modular software solutions covering the whole production flow – from sourcing and analyzing of market data to the aggregation of risk measures. Engaged collaboration with relevant infrastructure teams and front office are essential in this process.

You will be leading a team of six fantastic individuals from four nations with backgrounds in e.g. mathematical finance, econometrics, statistics and Physics – a team recognized for its professionalism, high competence and capacity. Together with your colleagues, you will shape the future of risk modeling at Nordea.

Your future responsibilities

Lead – you are a service leader to the Counterparty Credit Risk Models team and enable the team to perform at its best. As subject matter expert you provide input to technical discussions and lead by example. You are dedicated to empowering others.

Communicate – you communicate efficiently and clearly on any level and to any audience: From day-to-day email exchanges with colleagues to conference-style presentations to external stakeholders, e.g. regulatory bodies. You acknowledge that writing technical model documentation is yet another form of communication.

Report – you keep senior management and stakeholders updated about progress, flag challenges early on and provide proposals for remediation. You participate in a number of management meetings to exchange information and align strategies. Moreover, you represent your team in all aspects and participate in periodical updates to e.g. the ECB.

Plan – you are responsible for the overall direction of the team’s efforts and making sure it is aligned with Nordea’s. In collaboration with colleagues from other departments, e.g. risk managers, infrastructure experts and IT, you drive the model development and risk management projects. Guided by your experience, you anticipate challenges in the planning process and incorporate leeway accordingly.

Execute – you revisit continuously and, if necessary, revise plans to deliver on time and with quality. You work around potential challenges and manage dependencies on/from the team.

What you’ll be doing

  • Together with the team and colleagues, you translate regulatory requirements into tangible software solutions: regulation-to-solution.
  • Own, drive the design and productionisation of internal code libraries, predominantly in Matlab and Python. Ensure seamless integration with vendor software stack.
  • Together with colleagues, you coordinate requirements and model development efforts internally and/or with external software providers.
  • Take responsibility of methodological model development, building tools for model calibration, (data) analysis and model performance monitoring.
  • Shape Nordea’s future Counterparty Credit Risk infrastructure in a fast-paced environment with high professional standards.
  • Partner up with business and risk management functions to support prudent business and BAU.

Welcome to a team of highly qualified, innovative and high-performing passionate colleagues that have a strong drive to develop new risk models.

Who you are

You possess in-depth knowledge as a practitioner on all aspects of risk modeling – including front office valuation models as part of the risk calculation engine. You are familiar with related financial regulations.

You are a dynamic leader with high energy and enthusiasm who can inspire, coach and develop a group of high performing employees. You are able to bring knowledge, clarity and structure to your area.

Distinct organizational skills, clear communication, and the willingness to work in an international team are essential. You master management of stakeholders and utilize Nordea’s whole value chain.

Naturally, you are a team player with “can do” attitude and strong networking skills. You work proactively across the full organization and with external partners. Moreover, you strive to develop professionally and stay curious on that journey.

Your professional profile

Ideally, you have a proven track record of leadership experience, while being sufficiently hands-on to keep up with the development of Nordea’s technology stack. You are technically versed in statistics, finance and modern software development in order to provide additional guidance to a strong team.

If this sounds like you, we would like to get to know you better.
