Saxo Bank has recently decided to restructure its approach to data governance and data management in order to meet future aspirations, and is thus looking for a new Head of Data Governance to guide the Bank on this exiting journey.

Saxo Bank has started the journey of transitioning to a modern data platform including a redesign of the streaming data bus, and the enterprise data-warehouse, all eventually running in the Microsoft Azure cloud.

We are currently defining and implementing how to best support data governance, data quality management, data dictionary and data cataloging capabilities in our new data platform.

Given Saxo Bank’s technology focus and consolidated IT systems we are looking to implement a data governance framework that is designed around adding value to the business, leveraging and unlocking future potential of the Group’s data assets.

We have chosen a “fit-for-saxo-purpose” federated data governance model, with a small central governance team defining the policies, guidelines and rules of engagement, and who will also be driving and facilitating the change program. Data asset ownership and stewardship will be residing in the lines of business.

Reporting to the Finance, Risk and Compliance COO, who is also the Banks Chief Data Governance Officer, you will manage the Data Governance team who is in charge of driving the data governance change initiative. The team consists of two Senior Data Managers located in Copenhagen and Gurugram.

Important Data Governance matters is handled in the Data Governance committee, chaired by the Head of Data Governance.

Your Responsibilities


The position includes the below responsibilities;

  • Manage the Data Governance team
  • Create and own the strategy and roadmap for data governance, identify strategic priorities, and report on this to interested stakeholders
  • Implement and drive the data governance framework, including defining and assigning ownership for the enterprise data assets and driving data quality and governed data throughout the bank
  • Chair the Data Governance Committee
  • Manage the data governance operating model, data policies and standards across the bank and Data teams
  • Business Ownership of the Data Governance, Data Quality Management and Data Catalogue technical solutions
  • Work with the Architect forum and other committees to further data governance principles and embed data governance in the bank
  • Provide thought leadership and participate with projects that involve any of the upstream or downstream data flows and processes
  • Evangelise data governance throughout the bank, and manage any internal and external communications about data governance

Your Profile


  • You have experience in designing fit-for-purpose data frameworks
  • You are able to drive changes in culture and organization
  • You are experienced in driving data governance or data platform implementations
  • You acts as the bridge between business and technology and are equally able to engage with developers and business analysts
  • You have experience from the financial or technology sector
  • You are accustomed to managing complex projects and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously
  • You are used to doing business analysis and have a flair for developing and specifying solutions, often adopting new technologies
  • You have great people skills and can easily understand and explain complex situations
  • You are able to build valuable business networks which require good communication skills – connecting people with different functional and cultural backgrounds
  • You have knowledge of IT infrastructure and development work flows

Group, Finance & Risk Operations (GFR) within Saxo Bank


The Group Finance & Risk Operations division is responsible for the corporate functions in the value chain within Saxo Bank; Finance, Risk, Legal, Compliance and Treasury.

Some of the key responsibilities for the division include:

  • Servicing the different parts of the organisation in reaching their respective business goals
  • Controlling cost and generating higher and more stable revenue, leading to an improved EBIT margin
  • Managing capital cost and regulation efficiently to generate an improved return on Equity
  • Ensuring the Bank is in compliance with regulation and implementing proper risk control at all times as well as minimizing business risk on all aspects
  • Providing solid and reliable tracking of customer activities
  • Tracking, analysing and reporting on the Saxo Experience though a systematic and lean approach
