The section Electrical Engineering at the Mads Clausen Institute, Faculty of Engineering of the University of Southern Denmark is located on both the campus in Odense and on the campus in Sønderborg, Denmark. The Electrical Engineering Section is a fastly growing and highly international and interdisciplinary group with the ambition to become a lighthouse in electrical engineering in the region of Southern Denmark and beyond. The campus Odense is an international community with an open Scandinavian culture, affordable housing and living costs.

Job description

We are seeking a visionary and charismatic personality as Deputy Head of the section Electrical Engineering located in Odense. This unit will, fully developed, count about 30 members active in research, innovation, consulting and education, in key disciplines of industrial electronics, including

  • Power electronic components and systems
  • Smart Micro Grids
  • Energy storgage devices
  • Embedded Electronics

A key task for the new deputy head will be to develop, in close collaboration with the head of section and leading industries as well as regional stakeholders, the section Electrical Engineering at the Odense campus. It is expected that the section will attract significant competitive research funding and will collaborate extensively with industry and with research groups in and across disciplines. Entrepreneurship and commercial activities are also key activities.

If you have an excellent track record in research and industrial development in electrical engineering, experience in developing and leading top performing teams and creating successful collaborations between industry and academia, combined with a relevant Ph.D., send us an application.

The position will be at the rank of a Professor or Associate Professor with the function as deputy head of section on top of it and preferably have a starting date of 1.5.2020. Place of employment is Odense. The professor or associate professor appointment is permanent.

Qualifications

The candidates must have a PhD in engineering or natural sciences. Commensurate with the seniority of the position applied for, we also expect:

- outstanding experience with industrial collaboration
- long-year experience in leading excellent research and/or development groups
- a significant research and publication track record
- a strong track record of attracting funding

Appointment to the positions will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

A panel will assess the qualification of the candidate for the described post based on the submitted material, which should include

  • ideas for research and development activities
  • a Curriculum Vitae and statement of motivation
  • an account of significant contributions to the development of Electrical Engineering
  • an account of significant contributions to innovation in Industrial Electronics
  • an account of experience in education and outreach
  • relevant diplomas
  • a list of publications.

Conditions of employment
Employment as an professor or associate professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD level.
