We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 3-years post-doc position starting from 1st September 2019 or as soon as possible. During this period, the post-doc will take part in a large project on management and control of mastitis in dairy cattle herds. The candidate will work closely with other researchers on: 1) Improving our understanding of udder health management, 2) Characterization of pathogens causing intramammary infections, and 3) Comparing treatment protocols for mild and moderate clinical mastitis in dairy cattle herds in Denmark. Although the candidate will be involved in the three different activities, the main responsibility of the candidate will be to execute the tasks in the third activity.

Our research
The candidate will be situated in section of animal welfare and disease control which stands for research in animal welfare and ethics, epidemiology and statistics and disease spread and control. The section has a broad international network with collaborators from many countries. We enjoy a multidisciplinary research environment with strong collaborations between the different teams within the section and across the department. The post-doc will be part of a smaller team within the section that works with udder health consisting of a professor, a senior researcher, another post-doc and a PhD student.

Your job
Your main task in this project is to conduct a field study in order to compare the efficacy of different protocols to treat clinical mastitis cases with antibiotics. Your task will be to design the study and treatment protocols, participate in farms’ selection and randomisation of the cows, education and supervise farm employees to conduct the sampling and treatment protocol and analyse the collected data. Your secondary tasks include:

  1. Participation in collecting milk samples from 100 different dairy cattle farms
  2. Conducting a questionnaire study, with farmers, employees and udder health advisors that are attached to these farms.
  3. Follow up farm visits to collect data.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic veterinarian with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in veterinary epidemiology preferably with focus on udder health
  • You are highly experienced in design of field studies and collection of milk samples from dairy herds.
  • You have an active interest in conducting questionnaire-based studies.
  • Good experience of data analysis
  • Good records of publication in both popular and international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Proficient communication skills in both Danish and English and ability to work in teams.
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken.

Place of employment
The place of employment is at institute of veterinary and animal sciences, at faculty of health and medical sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of employment
The employment as postdoc is a full time and fixed-term position for 3 years. Starting date is September 1st 2019 or after agreement

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts DKK/ approx. Euro (April 2019-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.
