The Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen, invites applications for a research assistant for the Virtual Learning Lab, to be filled by September 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is for 12 months with the opportunity to prolong.

Job content

We are hiring a full-time research assistant to be responsible for daily activities at the Virtual Learning Lab (VLL; virtuallearninglab.net). The VLL is an innovative research group at the Department of Psychology at the University of Copenhagen that has the aim of producing new knowledge that can change how people learn through optimally designed virtual learning technology. We provide an exciting innovative research environment where we incorporate lab and field research related to learning in virtual environments. Employees are given a lot of autonomy and a high level responsibility.

We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated research assistant who can take responsibility for the daily operations of designing and conducting studies, and writing articles regarding learning in Virtual Reality. We develop VR learning simulations, conduct experiments, using psychophysiological measures such as EEG and eye-tracking, and most importantly successfully publish our findings in top tier international journals. We need someone who is highly organized and responsible, but at the same time innovative and open to new opportunities and directions who can help us manage and professionalize our lab projects.

Qualification requirements

The perfect candidate has several of the following competencies.

  • Experience with programming in Unity for games, simulations and/or VR.
  • Experience in designing, organizing and conducting lab and field studies.
  • Experience in using psychophysiological measures such as EEG or eye-tracking.
  • Strong writing competencies with potential for high impact publications.
  • Quantitative analytic skills, including knowledge of basic and/or advanced statistical analysis methods for descriptive and inferential statistics
  • Project management potential or experience.
  • Team player, flexible, dynamic employee.
  • A master degree or PhD with an area related to the topic (psychology, cognitive science, media technology, education, computer science etc.)
  • Prior experience of working in a research lab is a big plus.
  • It is very important to be able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and strive in a faced paced environment with quick decision-making.

We will hire the candidate who is exceptional and will provide us with the best potential to run a lab that conducts innovative top tier international research so expertise in all of these areas may not be necessary.

Appointment procedure

After the application deadline, the Head of Department selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointment Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been accepted for assessment. The Head of Department subsequently appoints an expert assessment committee tasked with carrying out an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee. Applicants are ultimately offered the opportunity of commenting on the part of the assessment relating to themselves before the appointment is finalized.

Salary and conditions of employment

Terms of appointment and salary will be in accordance with an agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). It is possible to negotiate salary supplements on an annual basis.

The Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) have further agreed on a protocol that makes it possible for international researchers employed by the University to achieve a pension exemption, whereby the pension contribution will be paid out as salary.
