København Ø

We are looking for a highly motivated and independent AC-TAPto support our efforts in understanding how lineage specific transcription factor codes can support totipotent stem cell populations to commence May 2020.

Our research/the project

Embryonic Stem Cells (ESCs) are genetically normal, immortal cell lines with the capacity to become any cell type in the future organism. However canonically they are not able to make the extra-embryonic cell types required for mammalian development. We identified different culture conditions capable of supporting cells with the capacity for differentiation to both embryonic and extra-embryonic lineages, so called totipotent cells. This position will support our efforts to identify and characterize these conditions, the transcription factor and cell growth requirements for these cells and their developmental potential in vivo and in vitro.

Your job

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in ESC biology, culture and experience with mouse embryology. The candidate is expected to characterize different cell culture models for totipotency. You will also assess their behavior in vivo through the generation of chimeric mice. You will be expected to contribute to and support the ongoing research projects in the group on an ad hoc basis when needed; disseminate your expertise to new lab members and support the lab management.

Profile

The candidate is required to hold an MSc degree in molecular biology/developmental biology/stem cell biology. A candidate should also have hands on experience with ESCs, analysis of ESC chimeras/mouse embryos, as well as practical knowledge general molecular biology techniques.

Place of employment

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Biology – DanStem has been established as a result of a series of international recruitments coupled with internationally recognized research groups focused on insulin producing beta cells and cancer research already located at the University of Copenhagen. DanStem addresses basic research questions in stem cell and developmental biology and has activities focused on the translation of promising basic research results into new strategies and targets for the development of new therapies for cancer and chronic diseases such as diabetes and liver failure. Find more information about the Center at http://danstem.ku.dk/.

Terms of salary and employment
