The job
You will join us in shaping the future and help patients worldwide by bringing drugs fast and efficient to PoC and markets from an R&D pipeline based on first or best in class molecules. In order to ensure critical mass, flexibility for a dynamic pipeline and to strengthen the interfaces between early and late API development and across other CMC disciplines, we have recently merged our arly and late stage small molecule API-teams.
Your job is to make the newly formed Process Research and Development-team – counting 10-12 Scientists and Technicians – a success by developing the strategy and building the right organization, processes, facilities, collaboration and stakeholder relations to ensure high scientific levels and deliverables. You will:
You will be based at the LEO Pharma HQ in Ballerup, Copenhagen, together with the rest of the team. You will report to the Director for API R&D, and be part of the area leadership team. Travel activities are expected to be limited to approx. 10-15 days per year, primarily to external partners/CDMOs.
Your qualifications
We are looking for a leadership profile with a strategic mindset. As you shall build a new department you must bring hands-on experience within change management and be able to create engagement and motivation while at the same time ensuring a shared drive for tangible results anddeliverables.
Additionally, you must be able to establish and facilitate good relations within the team and with the multiple stakeholders across the organization, and actively support cross-organizational and matrix- collaboration.

API R&D is a function consisting of 22 skilled employees spanning from PhD-level senior scientists and technicians working in our labs and pilot plant, to collaboration with external partners and CDMOs.
The team has a data driven R&D culture with high level dedication and focus on efficient and high quality deliveries. The environment is informal and open-minded like in the rest of the organization.
The function consists of two departments: a Process Research and Development-team and a Manufacturing-team.
You will lead the newly formed Process Research and Development-department which is responsible for synthetic route scouting, process development and optimization, and upscale throughout all development phases.

Your job is to make the newly formed Process Research and Development-team – counting 10-12 Scientists and Technicians – a success by developing the strategy and building the right organization, processes, facilities, collaboration and stakeholder relations to ensure high scientific levels and deliverables. You will:
- Ensure that adequate API manufacturing process is in place from Dose Range Finding studies to Phase III supply.
- Be responsible for the department budget and investment management.
- Secure EHS Compliance for all the labs and Kilo labs activities.
- Define and secure an appropriate partner strategy and participate in selection of the right partners.
- Secure efficient priority and resource planning of activities.
- Secure knowledge transfer from Medicinal Chemistry.
- Ensure internal scientific and technical knowledge is built throughout all R&D stages.
- Ensure on-going development, coaching and motivation for all employees

- An education with emphasis on chemistry (minimum an MSc).
- Extensive experience in process chemistry, and synthetic API development in different clinical phases.
- At least 5-10 years of people management experience.
- Experience with Quality by Design application in different development phases.
