We are looking for an experienced and motivated Biomarker & Immunoassay Principal Scientist to join our Biomarker Assay Development department and help us generate high-quality biomarker data for guiding decision-making in R&ED. If you have extensive experience with immunoassays and a solid understanding of how biomarkers can be applied to support the clinical development of new innovative therapies this might be just the right job for you. The position offers exciting scientific challenges and broad interactions with colleagues from across the drug discovery and development value chain at Novo Nordisk. About the department At the Biomarker Assay Development department, we establish and qualify biomarker assays to support drug discovery. We provide guidance on the feasibility of biomarker platforms used in pre-clinical and clinical studies, and we deliver biomarker data that is key for maturing the next generation of drugs changing the lives of patients with chronic and rare diseases. Our department consists of 18-20 highly skilled and self-motivated scientists and technicians. We collaborate and share knowledge to benefit each other and ultimately the patients, and our team is currently expanding. We are experts in immunoassays such as e.g., ELISA, AlphaLisa and MSD, which are routinely applied for the quantification of biomarkers, and we have recently built expertise within flow cytometry-based biomarker assays. Biomarker Assay Development is part of Global Translation, an organisational area responsible for the application of translational methodologies across all the therapy areas in Novo Nordisk. Our ambitious goal is to ensure early data-driven, decision-making clinical trials by application of biomarkers of target engagement, proof-of-mechanism, and proof-of-concept. Global Translation is part of Novo Nordisk´s Research & Early Development and is located in Måløv, Greater Copenhagen. The position As a Principal Scientist, you will engage in multidisciplinary project teams and interact with stakeholders from different parts of Novo Nordisk and collaborate closely with various stakeholders. Your role will be to: Develop and support fit-for-purpose assays (e.g., ELISA, MSD, AlphaLisa) for quantification and qualification of new biomarkers in pre-clinical and clinical samples in collaboration with technicians and/or associate scientists Actively seek internal and external inspiration for optimisation of our methodologies and stay up to date with scientific advancements Mentor and train junior colleagues in immunoassays and analysis of data Help promote a culture of innovation and curiosity, while maintaining accountability and timely delivery of high-quality scientific data Qualifications You hold a PhD degree in Life Sciences or a related discipline relevant to pharma research and development, or biotech. You have extensive experience with drug discovery and development in the pharmaceutical industry or similar. In addition, we expect you to have: A strong scientific immunoassay competence profile and independence in technical and operational skills, and preferably you have an understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms within cardiometabolic diseases Proven track record of conducting biomarker assay establishment and analytical qualification, plus the ability to analyse and interpret data using appropriate statistics Thorough understanding of both preclinical research and early clinical development Strong capabilities in cross-functional teamwork, working experience in international matrix organisations and with external contributors Experience in navigating within an environment of high complexity, non-standard approaches, and diverse tasks in known and new therapy areas Excellent communication skills enabling clear presentation of scientific data and discussions in assay expert groups and cross-functional teams. Fluency in both written and spoken English is a prerequisite As a person, you have a strong drive and a quality mindset, talent for troubleshooting, organising, and creating overviews. You thrive in a fast-paced environment working with high-performing colleagues. You have a good sense of humour and a large capacity for handling different tasks at the same time.
