Do you want to take part in building a state-of-the art bioprocessing platform, with the purpose of bringing stem cell-based therapies to patients suffering from type 1 diabetes and other serious chronic diseases? We are looking to expand our team to support the development of a treatment for type 1 diabetes. If this interests you, apply today! The position As a scientist, you will support our Type 1 diabetes project with the development of a robust and scalable process in stirred tank bioreactors. Your main responsibilities will include: The translation of protocol adaptations from simple suspension culture systems into bioreactors, in close collaboration with the entire research project team. Work on the bioprocess development in the 200 ml to 1L scale, to ultimately deliver a scalable and efficient process to our colleagues in CMC, who are responsible for the final upscaling. Taking part in running and developing the bioreactor platform in Cell Therapy Research with a special focus on expanding our capacity and lab space. Supervising 1-2 technicians and overseeing their daily work. Participating in relevant cross functional fora to exchange knowledge and ensure close alignment of processes and equipment across the bioreactor platform in CT R&D. Qualifications You hold a Ph.D. within bioengineering, bioprocessing, stem cell biology, or similar and have at least 2-3 years of experience within mammalian cell culture development from biotech or the pharmaceutical industry. Alternatively, you hold a master’s degree in above mentioned fields plus 5 years of similar industry experience. The seniority level of the job will be dependent on your experience. The ideal candidate has: Practical experience in bioprocess development and developing scalable mammalian cell culture in stirred tank bioreactors. Experience with DoE, QbD or similar methodologies for process characterization and optimization. Programming and automation skills are an advantage but not a requirement. Knowledge of pluripotent stem cell biology and suspension culture differentiation is considered and advantage. Experience with the supervision of technicians and/or students. Fluency in written and spoken English. In addition, you have a high motivation for translational science and a curiosity to understand what it takes to drive stem cell-based therapies towards clinical application. You must be able to keep the overview while paying attention to important details to enable data driven decisions and efficient project progression. As a person, you are a hardworking, collaborative and result-oriented team player. You have strong communication skills, are organized in your working routines, and enjoy working in an international and fast paced environment. About the department The Department of Stem Cell Biology is a dynamic and technology driven team and part of Cell Therapy R&D, which is a Transformational Research Unit (TRU) within Novo Nordisk. The TRU is unique in the sense that it covers the full R&D value chain, which means we function as an integrated unit, spanning from early research to GMP manufacturing and clinical development in the same organisation. Our department is part of the Research organization. We are based in Måløv, Denmark, and count 13 scientists and 7 technicians. You will join a dedicated and supportive project team with extensive expertise in stem cell biology and beta cell differentiation, and work in close collaboration with other areas of the organisation to build the data to drive our projects forward.
