Are you passionate about developing cellular models that are poised to improve the predictive validity and translatability of new drug targets? Are you excited about shaping the operations and science of a complex research unit while growing junior scientists and engaging with diverse stakeholders? Do you have a stem cell differentiation background combined with project leadership skills and an eagerness to involve yourself in hands-on laboratory work? Importantly, do you believe in a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and innovation? If yes, then you might be the one we are looking for to shape the GEM CELL Hub (Genome Engineering & Manufacturing of Stem Cell-Derived Cell Types), a new project to generate stem cell-derived cell types for target discovery, screening assay development, and drug screening. Apply today and become part of Novo Nordisk's mission to improve lives through innovative pharmaceutical solutions. The position
As the Principal Scientist, you will be based in Måløv, Denmark and report to the Project Director of the GEM CELL Hub. Your primary responsibility will be the establishment of processes for hPSC culture and the scalable production of hPSC-derived cell types with high reproducibility and functionality. This will involve taking part in building and guiding a growing team of scientists and technicians, as well as leveraging knowledge base from across the organization into the project. Bringing together competences within stem cell biology, molecular biology, assay technology, analytics, cell physiology, and cultivation technology, the Principal Scientist will play a key role in enabling accelerated target discovery and drug screening in early-stage research. Additionally, you will engage with a wide range of cross-organizational stakeholders in a global setting to maintain an updated and aligned strategy for this dynamic area. The main responsibilities can be summarized as follows: Establish laboratory infrastructure and workflows for stem cell cultivation, differentiation and characterization, focusing on robustness, functionality and scalability. Train and mentor a team of scientists and technicians. Develop and implement novel methodologies for the generation and characterization of stem cell-derived cell types. Define and implement operational setup for delivery of the individual cell types to collaborators across the organization, ensuring optimal quality and quantity. Stay abreast of the latest scientific advancements in the field of stem cell biology and contribute to the development of the overall scientific strategy of the GEM CELL Hub. Foster collaborations and partnerships with academic institutions, research organizations, and biotech companies to advance the understanding and applications of stem cell technologies in the drug development process. Qualifications
To thrive and succeed in the role, you should have: A PhD degree in Cell Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or a related field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the development and execution of laboratory-based stem cell biology projects. Hands-on scientific experience in complex research projects within stem cell biology within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. Proven track record within stem cell propagation and differentiation process development, and knowledge of gene editing and cultivation strategies for stem cells. Strong publication record demonstrating contributions to the field of stem cell biology. It will be an advantage if you have experience with neuronal cell types. Knowledge of high-throughput screening techniques to inform and develop assays for drug discovery. Your role will require a highly structured, organized and operational mindset, a keen interest in people development and a working style that balances both, innovative ideas and the focus on key deliverables. Moreover, you are a team player who displays excellent collaboration and communication skills across all organizational levels, functions, and cultures. You are committed to creating winning teams with a focus on creating an environment of trust and continuous people development. You also thrive working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. About the project
The GEM CELL Hub will be based in Bioprocess Research, Global Research Technologies, representing a new effort to bolster our drug discovery program using stem cell-derived cell types for target discovery and drug screening and related purposes. The primary aim is to ensure the accessibility of top-tier stem cell-derived cells for the diverse applications, catering to varying demands for cell types, quality, quantities and thereby also requiring the need for ongoing research and development of methods and processes. Ultimately, the goal is to facilitate the distribution of cells to stakeholders across the globe. The project will benefit from synergies of being co-localized with our cultivation experts in the area while having easy access to assay development colleagues and experts from our therapeutic stem cell area.
