In Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) development, we support and drive our promising product portfolio of novel drug candidates within chemically modified peptides and proteins. CMC Development is an ambitious organisation with a strong culture. We always seek to solve problems and do our best to deliver despite any obstacles along the way.

If this is a task and a context that you can relate to – then we have a rare opportunity for the right candidate to take on a challenging position in a rapidly developing organisation.

About the department

The job lies within the Novo Nordisk Research & Development area in our Chemical Process Development team. Here you will find ~25 highly skilled and motivated colleagues who continuously challenge themselves and develop our business understanding. We have a vivid social connexion and always try to help each other.

Our main responsibility is to develop robust and scalable chemical processes for the manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and intermediates used for pre-clinical and clinical studies. We do so in close collaboration with multiple stakeholders including discovery teams, analysis teams, QA, Regulatory Affairs, pilot facilities, and external partners.

The workplace is located in Bagsværd, where we have new state-of-the-art chemistry laboratory facilities. These facilities are situated at the centre of an expanding chemistry hub, placing us in an inspiring environment in very close proximity to our key stakeholders, e.g. chemistry, recombinant, and purification pilots and other CMC development teams. You will be part of this dynamic work environment and impact the future directions for the development of manufacturing processes in a company with a growing focus on chemistry.

The job

You will have the opportunity to use your strong skillset within classical organic chemistry, peptide and protein chemistry for the manufacture of chemically modified peptides and proteins. Of particular focus for this 2-year position will be the development of a new peptide and protein ligation technology platform to provide access to highly complex APIs. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to implement this ligation platform into the manufacturing process of selected APIs from discovery through early development stages in close collaboration with key stakeholders including both CMC and research teams.

This job is a temporary position for 2 years.

Qualifications

The main qualifications are as follows:

  • PhD (or equivalent) within synthetic organic chemistry, bioorganic chemistry, chemical biology or other relevant areas
  • Practical experience with peptide or protein chemistry and preferably experience with up-scaling from fume-hood to medium-scale
  • State-of-the-art knowledge in organic chemistry, protein chemistry and peptide synthesis
  • Preferably you will also have experience with protein and peptide ligation techniques (such as native chemical ligation, expressed protein ligation, KAHA ligation, traceless Staudinger ligation, enzymatic ligations, ….)
  • It is expected that you possess the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across disciplines in drug development and with external partners
  • You are able to be both a team player and independently drive complex development projects forward

What we will offer in turn is an exciting position where you will be at the forefront of drug development, working chemically with a diverse product portfolio and across disciplines. You will become part of a workplace where we have an informal working environment and a strong culture of cross-functional collaboration, thus providing you with a unique possibility for professional and scientific development, and the chance to integrate into a dynamic team of highly qualified and enthusiastic colleagues.
